Does anyone know of a way to adjust the text speed in Final Fantasy I?
I can't find the answer in the FAQ's, and I have no manual for the
game (bought it on ebay). I have a Game Genie, and I know how to
adjust my Zelda speed, so a game genie solution would be welcome as
well, but I was hoping their was some internal setting. I am looking
for this primarily to speed up the battle sequences.

Any help would be appreciated,
John

After you turn on the game, there's an option in the front menu that
allows you to set the battle text speed from 1 (slow) to 9 (fast). I
found 5 to be acceptible. I think it defaults to 1, and the setting
doesn't get saved.

You can't speed up the non-battle text.

Usually under options there is a setting for message and battle speed. The
options thing is in the submenu, where you check stats and whatnot

Thank you so much. I didn't ever recognize "response rate" for what
is was before, though I remember seeing it when I first started
playing. This makes the game so much more enjoyable. Glad to see
there are some others out there who enjoy the classics.

Sincerely,
John

I didn't see the 'one', sorry. That game is slow also.

I had that same problem. Makes the game more enjoyable when you don't have
to wait and wait for the text.
I bought an old nintendo from ebay last week and my brother happened to have
a copy of FF#1. I started playing it and now I'm gonna try to work my way
through all the FF's. I've only played #1, #3 and Mystic Quest. So this
group may see questions from me in the near future about the other FF's I
haven't played.
At any rate, I found a fantastic walkthru site for #1. Check it out if you
need help with it.

On the Start/Continue screen, press left or right to change the battle
text speed. Words of advice: pick the second-fastest. If you pick the
fastest, it'll flash by too quickly to see anything at all.
