FF7: The big red monster near the Gold Saucer

to use this?
Also, has anyone managed to kill the big red monster near the gold
saucer (the one you crash into with the Highwind if you fly too low, and
it jumps out of the ground). It seems to be impossible to do much (often
any) damage to it. Can anyone help? It's the only remaining challenge in
this game and I would like to kill it!

Just give it to the man at Kalm for a gold Chocobo.

That's Ruby Weapon. He's easy, but has 1 million HP. Just equip everyone
with Ribbon, kill 2 of your allies, give the alive person W-Summon KoR,
Phoenix, and Hades. Use Hades, then Phoenix. Hades will freeze Ruby. Then
have the other two use Big Guard and Megalixir or Regen>. Then use KoR L2
with W-Summon. 4 Mimes should kill him if everyone has near 255 Magic Atk
and you connect it with MP Turbo.
Or you can get 7777 HP before the battle (by using Mini attacks to get 7677
then using a Potion, or using Cat's Bell) to do the Lucky 7 thing, which
will do about 500,000 dmg to him.

I can help. :-P
Anyway, those are both weapons actually, and Ruby Weapon (the one in
the desert. The one in the sea is called Emerald) is much easier in my
opinion.

Well, that's enough.
OK then. The earth hard you *don't* use. You go to a house in Kalm
(the town near Midgar, if you don't remember) and give it to a man on
the second floor. The house is a bit north west to that tower thing.
He will then give you three materias - Master Summon, Master Command
and Master Magic.
Master Summon allows you to summon every summon possible in the game,
how many times you wish in battle.
Master Command gives you all commands.
Master Magic gives you all magic spells.
Unfortunally, you can't get another one of any of those, since they
don't have AP.
Now, for Ruby Weapon...
You already have Knights of the Round (either since you raised a gold
chocobo or yyou got it through master summon). Now, make sure you have
HP absorb, W-summon, mime and some HP plus materia.
Kill two of the chars in your party, so you'll only have one
(preferably the one with the most magic power).
On the living char, put KotR coupled with HP absorb (or master summon
with hp absorb), put mime, put W-summon and put enough HP plus materia
so you'll have 9999 HP (or a bit less... at least 9000). In whatever
materia slots you have left, put any materia you want leveled.
Now, hit Ruby. Ruby's first move will be to dig it's tentacles and
they will come out behind you. W-summon KotR on the tentacles, then
just mime it.
It's as easy as that. If it doesn't work the first time. try again.
From Ruby you get lots of exp and AP, and you also get the desert
rose. Give the desert rose to the man in Kalm, and he'll give you a
gold chocobo.

You don't use it. You give it to somebody. He gives you something that
might help, but you don't really need in order to finish the game.

That's Ruby Weapon. Did you get the "Knights of Round" materia? You're
going to need it, even if you did trade in the Earth Harp as described
above.
I simply link KoR to HP Absorb, and Master Summon to MP Absorb. Then, just
keep casting KoR, and Ruby Weapon will fall. Just make sure you start
doing this once she sticks her claws out of the sand.
