Why Deathevn (from Breath of Fire 2) is kinda easy.

After Barubary in Breath of Fire 2, I was expecting Deathven to be
harder, but I was mistaken.

He's easy because.

1 He NEVER uses Explode, his best spell, after Ryu casts Anfini. Ever.
What the hell??

2 His Bone Laser spell is fairly weak.

3 Most of the time he only uses regular attacks and Ice Breath, whoch
dont do much damage.

4 He doesnt casts Death much.

5 The only really deadly spell he uses is "Be Gods power!" were he sucks
up HP and AP, and then not all that much.

Not terribly easy, but not hard. Barubary though, that damn thing can
do up to 220 later on in the fight!

BOF2 was a great game. I think it was really underrated. Sure, it had an
awful translation, and some of the dialoge was rather confusing and
grammaticly incorrect, but I remember really liking it when I played. Geez,
I put like 70 hours into it!

Yeah, same here. BoF2 was one of the greatest SNES games I've ever played, and
I can't wait for BoF3.

Well, the final boss was pretty cool looking, although pretty easy. Not as
easy as Sephiroth though. I LOVED the cool 3d lookin battles though, with
the detailed charachters and stuff, not to mention the monsters moved! That
kicked the arse off any FF games prior to FF7.

<snip reasons list>

I remember him as being relatively challenging... the big deal with him was
that you almost ALWAYS had to heal someone, and it was hard to predict what
his next move would be and act accordingly. Depending on if he were to use
BoneLazer or the "Be God's Food" attack your curing strategy would
change... you almost never had to worry about stuff like that in FF.

He's really tough to beat in the one-on-one battle. The only way I could
ever do it was by cooking up a whole lot of the items that recover AP (I
forget what they're called, but only two of them can be found in the entire
game), and then alternating turns between using the item, casting Ainfini,
and consuming meat. Every now and then if he managed to get my HP really
low I'd use Guts to bring it back up instead of the meat, and that was
risky as well, since Guts can sometimes fail.

That first town theme really got on my nerves. I really hated the way it
used a half-step up to start the loop over again. It seemed so...wrong.

Strange, I found Sephiroth to be tougher. Deathevn cannot take out
almost all HP and cause confuse and mute at the same time. I guess it
was because I wasn't terribly terribly strong when I fought Sephiroth.
No Ultimate Weapons, Omnislash, KOR, or any of those little special
materia you can find. Only one character (Tifa) had really strong
healing magic, and my most powerful spells were Ultima, PAndora's Box,
and Bahamut Zero. Only had about 3 mega elixirs by the time I reached
him. I think the reason why Deathevv might seem harder is in that game,
your characters have access to less abilities and spells, while in FF7
you could have everyone know the best cure spells, have limit breaks
that did 10,000 + damage, and stuff that could reduce all damage by
half.

I LOVED the cool 3d lookin battles though, with

Ahh, I remeber that.

Ya, the town theme sucks, and the first two overworld themes do as well,
but the last overworld theme is nice (although bad synth quality),
Barubaries song is cool, Windia, The Flower (called that in the piano
players house) , the joining room song, Silence of Sands, and a few others
I can recall the names of were really good.

Ray was one of my favorite characters. He was corrupt, but he was still noble.

I freaked out when I tried to leave the Great Church city, then I found out I
couldn't, and everyone started to act creepily devoid of spirit.

Those gems in the conversation boxes also gave the game a creepy atmosphere.

I think it had more than one meaning. During conversations, the evil
characters would be revealed when the gem turned dark purple. The dark purple
color also seemed to signify a bad decision made by the main character. The
gem would change colors when an important character entered the mix during a
conservation. There is probably a common denominator between these multiple
meanings, but it has confused me so far.

Yeah, a great moment, huh? I loved that part, 'cause I was hoping that Ryu
would get at least partially singed from one of the explosions. ;)

Ya, that was kinda scary, although they should have had the music change or

The color of the gem reflected the emotional state of the person your
character is talking to.

Black - Extreme hatred, evil
Red - Anger, hatred
Yellow - Neutrality, indecision, remoteness
Green - Neutral but inclined to be friendly
Blue - Friendship, faith
Rainbow - Something to do with fate, IIRC. Commitment.

I think there was one more, but I can't remember it, offhand.

The 'stronger' the color, the greater the fealings. Black is for
hatred, red is for stong aftection, orange is for liking, green is in the
middle I think... and so on. When it cycles though all the colors it meens
that the person is as much on your side as they posabley could be.
Someonewhat like 'blood brother/sister' I supose. I want BoF3! Hurry up
Capcom! *gripe* *gripe* Ray was on of my favorite charicters to. Although
he was never corupt. He sided with the Church just so that he could force
the 'Desined Child' to awaken his hidden power. He died so that he could
help get you ready to defeat Dethaven... He was ~not~ courupt.
Yea, BoF2, is one of my favorites. I loved the fact that you
chould merge with the shamens... Long live the Blue Death Frog! (The only
thing that makes Jean worth keeping) Huza for the Dark Martial Artist! The
only grip a had about that game was that you couldn't stay transformed as
a dragon, like you could in BoF1. You could only summon them. I guess
Capcom realized that being able to transform into a huge hulking dragon
with 1000's of HP that did 100's of HP damage per hit made things a bit
easy... but dang, it was fun to use...

I thought fighting Deathevn was booooooring. He had a ton of HP but most of
his attacks barely took any damage, so you're reduced to doing the same things
over and over and over again (mainly using Life restoration items)
Still, /nothing/ can match the sheer tedium and stupidity of fighting Tyr as
Agni in Breath of Fire 1. Attack, attack, attack, attack, attack - hmm, are
my HP getting kinda low? May as well use a Cure, I've got 20 million of
'em...resume attacking.
The biggest danger in that battle was that you might fall asleep before the
boss croaked...

The themes are one and the same.

Still good. :-) I liked the music from flying on the great bird a lot,
too (the scene with Mine right before you-know-what happens had more of
an affect on me that Aerith's you-know-what, if that says anything). I
also liked all the battle musics, especially the second normal one, the
boss theme, and Barubary's music... And the overworld themes, and the
dungeon themes... Heck, I liked everything, I even bought the OSV. :-)
As for challenge, Deathevn was *much* too easy after Barubary.. Of
course, I did beat Barubary with only the hero at level 42, which I do
take great pleasure in boasting about. :-) (And I've never understood
that thing about the treasure he says right after you beat him with the
hero alone... Any help there?)

Actually, you can kill Tyr easier than shit with Agni. Try and
Deathevn were both losers, Jade and Barubary were MUCH tougher than
them. I hope the end boss of Breath of fire 3 is improved.....

Ohboyohboyohboy, I cant wait. When did <?> say BOF3 was coming out? The 3d
graphics look incredible! Although it seems they have the fighting
persepective all reversed. This time your party is on the upper part of the
screen rather than the lower. That'll be weird because you wont be able to
see the front of the monsters...
