I bought this game from GAMELAND and I played about 3/4's of the way
through the game, and got to the mermaid part. Guess what.. I went to
the shrine to fight AMON and the screen gets completely scrambled.. shit.
I was so pissed off. I returned and got another one, but I have to play
the whole thing over again... The first time I played, I wasted my time
getting gades blade.. This time I won't... It wasn't really worth all
the time and hassle....

Does anyone out there play this game as well?

Yes, I finished that game a few months ago. Getting another copy
of the game won't help, since all the copies of the game are glitched in
that area. When you get there, just do your best to find your way up to
Gades. Don't bother trying to get those treasure chests, since they don't
really exist anyway.
The game has some other glitches, like Level 99 in the Ancient
cave, and the Stereo/mono glitch.
I suspect this is why Natsume translated the game instead of the
company that created it (Taito). Taito probably thought that the glitches
would make the game unpopular.

No problem. Here's a solutin from the Lufia 2 online guide:

- You will enter a room with a strange pattern of grass pointing toward a door.
You must destroy all of the grass for the door to open to a single treasure. The
grass is arranged like this:
1 2 3
4 5
7 6
8
The solution to this puzzle is a little tricky as it requires bombs, fire arrows
and exact timing. Remember it takes 6 steps or sword swings, NOT time, to set
off a bomb. First place a bomb E of #8 (directly south of #7). Walk 1E, 1N and
place a bomb between #7 and #6. Shoot a Fire Arrow North to destroy #4 and #2.
Walk 1N and place a bomb where #4 was. Walk 1N and place a bomb where #2 was.
Walk toward the door to activate all the bombs. (***Note: If you are having
problems try making all turns using R Trigger; this does NOT count toward the 6
steps to set off a bomb.) Go through the N door to get a single treasure (Sonic
Ring). Return to the room with the grass arrow and take the NE door. Go through
the next room and go up the stairs to another tier of the mountain.

Ah yes, the world's (second) most difficult trick.
If you're talking about the puzzle where the grass is growing like this:

1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
(Keep in mind that you need to turn using the R button. This little fact
will make your life a lot easier)

a) Go between 5 and 6, shoot 2 arrows to burn down 5 and 4.
b) Go between 6 and 9, shoot an arrow to burn down 3.
c) Go between 7 and 4, shoot an arrow to burn down 7, turn around and
shoot another arrow to burn down 1.
d)Go between 4 and 5, shoot an arrow to burn down 6.
e)Go between 7 and 8, shoot an arrow to burn down 9.
f) Go between 5 and 8, shoot 8.
g)Go between 6 and 9, shoot 3.
h)Go between 5 and 6, shoot 4.
i)Go between 5 and 8, shoot 2, turn and shoot 8
j)Go between 6 and 9, and shoot 6.

I hate to break it to you, but it is like that in every copy known to man.
I don't know why, but you can still go through the shrine anyway.

Well, actually the glitches are an actual part of the game, therefore
they aren't glitches!

Somehow I don't think Taito meant to have such messed up areas in the
game. A glitch is an unintended side effect, therefore they really are glitches.

HOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only
one who has suffered from this problem! But how to you get up to the
upper levels when you can't really see where to go??? I've tried
wandering around for ages but I don't seem to be making any
progress...The only exit I know does exisit is the teleport back to
the entrance. Please, I beg of you, if there are any good souls out
there, please help me with this fuck-up stage!!! Email is preferable.
Thanx for your time.

It's roughly north, then east, north, and west from where you entered.
Your goal is to get to the center of the room farther up the screen (there are no
stairs or any other exit, so you don't have to worry about that). You know you
have reached your goal once Daos starts talking to you about Dual Blade. If all
else fails, just "feel" your way along one wall (just like you would do in a real
life maze) until you get there.
