Hit rate has a major effect, if you equip db materia to one of
Vincent's CR-sniper or Tifa's God's Hand (I think) you have guaranteed
death-blows everytime you use that option as they both have 255% hit
rate, kinda handy in the middle of the game, consistently dealing
damage of around 4000

I thought Star Bladed Sword happened whenever you had more than one
enemy (that's Odin's one that isn't Gunge Lance, right?) AFAIK Fat
Chocobo is completely random, I'm told it's a 1/10 chance although
that seems a bit of an over-estimate

Not *quite* guaranteed -- I have missed a Deathblow when using Vincent's
255% weapon. Only twice (oddly, one right after another, and not on an
enemy which was unusually good at dodging), but it's happened. However,
since I used it several hundred times, I'd have to say those are pretty
good odds. :)

It's definitely not every time you have multiple enemies. I don't think

I always thought it was 'Steel Bladed Sword'... could be wrong though :)
I _think_ steel bladed sword only appears if you can kill all enemies
outright. Therefore, if theres a strong enemy, it wont appear. If its
possible all enemies can be killed (not sure how it works that out
though), then it has a percentage chance of appearing.
In effect, it means it only appears something silly like every 1 in 50
times you use it. I think thats how it works anyway - thats what i've
heard somewhere, and it seems to be about accurate.
As to Fat Chocobo, i think its 1/10 as you say - although i've only ever
got it once.. - so thats gotta be inaccurate as you say..
I dont actually think there are any other 'second animations' are there?

Actually, in this game I've got more SBS and FC's than in all the previous times I've played it
combined....
> I dont actually think there are any other 'second animations' are there?
I haven't seen any, but one can always hope...
That would be a good idea... with FFVII, they could have implemented it as
the materia levelled up... and with FF8 possibly a really really hard to get
item to give an ability to the GF... that would be cool =)

Odd... I think it is random, I've just been replaying FF7 and used
Odin around several times, he used the sword one every single time,
including on materia keeper, which was *very* annoying (missed like he
does when attacking bosses ff8, except for the split scenery), but I
used him pretty often the first two times I played and he consistently
used Gunge Lance for bosses and single enemies and the sword one for
multiple normal enemies

I was always expecting a second animation for Brothers GF, looks like
that paper, scissors, stone bit was just for cheese though.
I suppose Odin kinda levels up at the Seifer battle and then he has 4

I'm not sure. Gilgamesh is pretty pants. Excalipoor is just, well, crap.
Excalibur is the same as odins original one, and the other two I dont
think are as good, so really, you only get a 1 in 4 chance of a good
weapon, rather than every time - exactly the same as FF5, where he was a
pathetic boss anyway.
I, too, am replaying FF7 at the moment. All this talk of the game made me
want to start playing it again.
I tend to get Fat Chocobo quite a lot, because I'm always using choco

into a mighty boss monster that I find amusing...
