You get the desert rose by killing Ruby Weapon and the earth harp by killing
Emerald Weapon.

To get these two things, you need to defeat the new Weapons found in the so
called American version of the game:

Emerald and Ruby Weapon.

They are very hard to defeat and you should have the 4th level limit breaks for
the characters you use and the ultimate weapons if you don't mind the materia
you placed in the weapons' slots to not grow. Make sure you have Final-Attack
and Knights of the Round materias. Use Final-attack to revive with revive or
phoenix.

Emerald Weapon gets you the Earth Harp which gets you the master materias which
you would otherwise get by mastering all your materias and having gotten all
the huge materias save one. There are 4 huge materia quests and only 3 master
materias. The 4th huge materia gets you the Bahumut Zero materia. You can find
him in the ocean with the submarine.

Ruby Weapon gets you the Desert Rose which gets you a weak Gold Chocobo.
Breeding one is longer, but the chocobo is much stronger (for racing in Gold
Saucer). You can find him after Ultimate Weapon is destroyed outside Gold
Saucer.

These are ultra-powerful creatures, make sure you save before fighting them to
make sure you don't game-over.

Tim,

To get the Desert Rose, you must kill the Ruby Weapon buried in the Gold
Saucer desert on disc 2/3 of the US version of FFVII. You'll need a Mime or
Master Command Materia, as well as the W-Summon Materia and either Master
Summon or both Hades and Knights of Round. The Phoenix/L2 Revive+Final
Attack combo is highly advised. And, oh yeah, stock up on Megalixirs,
Elixirs, Turbo Ethers, and X-Potions.

The Ruby Weapon has 1,000,000 HP and a host of nasty attacks, but these
should be no problem if you do the following:

- Kill off your 2 comrades before you fight this beast. Ruby won't use
"Whirlsand" if only Cloud is alive (this will suck a random party member
off-screen)

- He'll turn his hands to tentacles which drain random HP or MP when they
attack. Their effect is similar to Demi spells.

-DO NOT use any type of physical attack; these barely scratch him.

-Use W-Summon to call Hades first, then KoR. Hades casts Stop on Ruby, then
KoR attacks for around 90K damage. Mime the attack 11 more tines if yoiu're
healthy, but use your recovery items if you're short on either HP or MP .
Should you be killed, Phoenix or Life2 will resurrect you but you must
repeat the W-Summon and Mime commands.

Eventually, you'll kill Ruby and earn 50000 EXP, AP, and gil--plus the
Desert Rose! Trade this with the Kalm Traveller for a gold Chocobo

Emerald Weapon is floating underwater between Junon and the Gold Saucer.
Use the Sub to ram and engage him.

Emerald is somewhat similar. Though he also has 1,000,000 HP, his defenses
are much weaker. He can't zap a party member off-screen as Ruby could, but
he does have some serious power-robbing attacks. These come largely frim
the eyes he will expose. Some pointers:

Use as few Materia as possible. Emerald's Aire Tam Storm attack does
damage proportionate to the number of Materia each character has equipped.
I do, however, recommend mastered HP and MP Plus orbs in addition to
W-Summon and Master Summon or a mastered Knights of Round. Also, equip at
least 2 Master Command and/or Mime orbs as well as 2 Final
Attack+Phoenix/Revive combos (1 pair per member), Don't forget the
Underwater Materia; it'll negate a 20-minute timer.

- As always, keep curative items handy.

-Give Cloud the Ragnarok sword, and equip the others with any ultimate
weapons you find. Barret's Missing Score works well, but it
does the most damage if 8 mastered Materia are inserted.

- To attack, you can use your acquired Limit Breaks (L4 works well), as well
as W-Summoning KoR. If you do the latter, have the others Mime the spell.
Each W-Summon action will do 180K damage, so you might finish the battle in
2 rounds. As long as you stay above 8000 HP, you should be OK (By my
definition, a round is complete when each of your characters has taken his
turn).

If you succeed, you get the same EXP, AP and gil as Ruby, plus the Earth
Harp, which you can trade fir a set of Master Materia.

BTW, you must trade the Guide Book for an Underwater orb before you go up
against Emerald.

Hope this helps,
Nate Alden

Well, the harp is a tough one. You have to kill that big bastard
underwater known as the legendary Emerald Weapon. The Desert rose...
Hehehehehe... Just fly REEEALY low near the Gold Saucer...
