The hint I'm looking for is where to go next after the Hub (no
spoilers please!). I've been to Shady Sands, Vault 15, Raiders,
Junktown, and the Hub. My character's map shows Brotherhood of Steel,
Necropolis, Boneyard, and the Glow. I've heard of a Military Base
somewhere in the northwest and a Cathedral south of the Boneyard.
I'm asking because my first character got to the Hub too soon and
found herself involved in things way out of her league. I'm presuming
there is some sequence of increasing difficulty. Rather than discover
it by trial and error I thought to save some time by asking. If it
matters - my character is gifted and good-natured. Tag skills are
Small Weapons 150, Doctor 96, Speech 96. Perks are Fast Learner and
Sharpshooter.
The game is pretty flexible about where you should go next. I think that you
should go to the Brotherhood of Steel before you go to the Glow. One thing
you kind of have to do is to go someplace and evaluate whether it's too
tough, and if it is, try going someplace else and coming back to it later.
yeah it's flexible, but get the water chip before the last ~15 days or so...
you could be suprised. just my advice of course.
if you have trouble with finding it ask again, when there's ~15 days left :)
Agreed, but you should be ready for Necropolis right now.
Thanks. Ended up going to the Boneyard. Felt like a good idea to get
out of town (Hub) in a hurry and the next caravan went to the
Boneyard. Met someone from home. Next stop Necropolis.
Seem to have run into a bug:

I got the holodisk from Razor (Blades leader) and went to see
Zimmerman rather than risk a frontal assault. I saved before entering
the Adyton gate. Couldn't get Zimmerman alone away from the
regulators. Went back to Razor but she was a bloodspot! Nobody seemed
to notice she was dead. Reloaded and went back - still a bloodspot.
Went in and talked to Zimmerman - who was immediately killed despite
being surrounded by myself and crew. Killed all the Regulators without
harming any townsfolk but they all act as if the Regulators are still
running things. No thanks, no experience. The Gunrunners had agreed to
help but nobody showed up. Don't think it was supposed to turn out
like this. Is it a bug? If so, how do I avoid it if I reload from a
save before reaching the Boneyard?
I think it is best NOT to talk at all before talking to Razor, organizing
the Gunrunner help and annihilating the Regulators. At least in my (patched)
game talking to the guy before that always led to bugs when talking to
Razor.

Thanks. Got through that okay now.
Since then I've been to Necropolis, Vault 13, Brotherhood, The Glow,
and joined the Brotherhood. While scouting I found the Military Base
and entered it using the code from the tape with the StealthBoy
activated. Hacked the computer on the first level. Went on, killing
all the SMs I could reach until forcefields and a locked elevator door
prevented any more progress there. I went back to the Brotherhood, got
help but found myself alone inside.
Couldn't make any more progress than I did on the first trip. Gave up
and visited the Cathedral. Left it a crater. Back to the Brotherhood -
they've forgotten that I found the base and sent me back out to scout!
The game crashed several times during all this. Suspect we are
supposed to visit the Cathedral before finding the Military Base.
Right now I'm still trying to find a way to make progress in the
Military Base. Can't get through the elevator door and can't get
through the forcefields to the computer on the first door. I have 100%
science now and lockpicking is at 50%
Also, passing through the Hub inadvertently rescued a ?Brother? in old
town. The PIP showed a Brotherhood quest complete - but nobody has
mentioned anything about it and nothing comes up when I talk to
Brother Talus. What's up with this "quest"? What do you have to do to
find out about it before you complete it?
It is possible to save zimmerman just stand between him and the regulator
boss; and make SURE you kill the boss in one turn (boss kills him
automaticly on first attack). It is also possible to give zimmerman stims
and a handgun, he will fight the regulators with you. However I should note
that the game does not expect this, and when the fight ends, Zimmerman goes
psycho on you and won't stop until you kill him. (The town doesn't care:
you'll still be a hero)
