Unfortunately, you can't start a dialogue with Dogmeat and asking him to
stay anywhere isnt possible.

There is but one way to save Dogmeat and it's long and hard to do. It
involves a TON of trial and error, and in the end it's just a gigantic
headache to try. It doesnt really add anything and the game doesnt even
acknowledge that he's still with you. Looking aside that, I too spent
the time saving the pooch. Nobody likes to see animals get killed in
games after all.

Here's the thing to do. Have you noticed the force fields and how you
can 'repair' them to temporarily open them? Yeah, find a room with one
of these doors and trap dogmeat in them. Be sure to stock up on stimpaks
to keep him healthy since a few red forcefields will surely kill
dogmeat.

I think this involves going outside and turning on the power generators,
btw. As i remember it, the forcefields are red if you dont repair the
generators.

Just talk to him and tell him to stay put, that's all. It works with all

I think you can try to lock him up behind those big circular electronic
doors in the BOS (with luck the game will acknowledge that dogs usually cant
figure out how to open automatic doors)

Nope. Anybody who's following you will show up on the next
screen with you, even if you trap him that way. OTOH, it does
mean they don't have to walk all the way across the screen
(through force-fields) to the next exit point, as long as you can.

You can always use a lot of Stim Packs on him. That's what I did.

I've also read that using a Psycho on him improves his damage
resistance. Haven't tried it myself, though.

stay close to it, as it tends to wander since it doesn't need a lot of AP
for walking and biting.
also use stimpacks, and psycho on it, and finally shoot whoever comes close
to it
all this usually won't help when you're fighting the super mutants, though

If you've ever played Fallout 2, one character mentions a trick of
keeping Dogmeat alive by locking him behind a force field. It works, so
long as you don't go to a different level - then you have to do it all
over again.

hmm...
using Dogmeat to waste mutants may not be such a good idea in the first
place if you ask me...
I know, I know...... you didn't ask me. :)
still, I would just leave him some place and make him wait till I got back..

in fallout2 I make myron wait a lot...
(my mission is to make Myron a Warior... it ain't no easy quest I tell ya
;)...)

I love Dogmeat, saving a lot helps, I have had no major problems.
