Please tell me I can get a better weapon than Rusty Mace or Rusty Spear at
7th level. Whenever we go in a group into BlackBurrow, everybody is dishing
out damage en-masse and I am chipping away like a stonemason.
Are there any quests or something I can do to find some better stuff?

Speak to that Clothspinner tart in Qeynos (Nerissa I think) she will tell
you she is worried and ask you to take her sister a note. Her sister is in
East Karanas (you may want to get some maps for this) Hand her sister the
note and you'll get a monogrammed cloth (snot rag) in return, leg it back to
Qeynos, don't stick around (I know you will and you'll feel really helpless
in doing so) hand the cloth back to Nerissa and she will give you (yet)
another note to pass to someone in the temple of life (faction willing) you
will likely receive a Bronze weapon (normally war club or mace)
You can make money by collecting stacks of 20 bone chips and selling them to
players (3pp is about the norm around Qeynos, more in other zones)
Once you have some plat then use /auc to offer to buy a better weapon. FS
(Fine Steel) is about 5pp an item, Bronze about 3pp and Velium about 10pp
(no matter what you here on that, velium does not proc until mid 20's unless
it's Coldain Velium) give an idea of what you are willing to spend. At worst
someone will sell an item to you at best there will be a mid - high level
character in the zone who may have something as good or better that he'll
just give you.
Do not beg, very few characters give anything to beggers, accept membership
to their ignore lists.
If you want one of these awesome items that others have, sorry they are
twinks, you may feel inadequate but you are playing the game first time
around and by working for every bit of Raw Hide and bronze yourself you will
earn more respect than asking for "spare items for a newbie"

Save up. You should be able to get enough to buy a Velium weapon from
someone for 10pp or so, and it *is* possible to save up that much at
level 7. Kill some wisps and sell the greater lightstones (you need
magic to hit them so if you can't do it with spells, get a mage to
summon you a norent weapon), or hunt animals and sell the pelts, sell
stacks of bonechips and batwings etc...
All these fetch next to nothing from vendors but OK money from players
(eg, on Morell Thule they go for about 7pp for a GLS, 2pp for a stack of
bones/batwings, 1-2pp for a quality pelt, 15pp for an HQ bear skin).
When you have a few pp, try just auctioning to the zone in Qeynos Hills
or somewhere - 'Newbie Barbarian Shaman would like to buy a weapon
better than a rusty mace - I can afford up to x pp' - someone will
probably take pity on you and just give you a bronze or fine steel
weapon that they were going to dump on a vendor. I know I would if the
person seemed genuine and wasn't just begging (i.e. looking to buy
something rather than '/ooc Need good weapon. plz!!! give me stuff!!!')
Velium weapons have the same stats as fine steel but are magic so you
can hit wisps, ghouls etc, and they also have a 12point direct damage
proc (this doesn't go off until you hit level 25 by which time it is a
pretty crappy spell, and you should have found something better, hence
they are junk to anyone high enough level to actually get them as loot).
Most players are happy to offload them for anything more than the 5pp or
so they'd get from a vendor. The catch is finding someone who has
actually bothered to cart a bunch of heavy weapons back from Velious
rather than just dumping them on a vendor there - hanging around at
druid rings/wizzy spires may be a good bet - Blackburrow/Qeynos and
environs are a bit out of the way with regard to teleport points so
they're not exactly a travel hub for high level players...
If you happen to be on Morell Thule, give Elidar a tell and I'll try to
help you out.
Don't bother buying bronze weapons, get FS or velium ( velium preferably ),
most people just toss bronze at vendors, some hang on to FS, and I see
velium auctioned off cheaply almost every day.
Although if you get bronze out of that quest, that's ok, didn't cost you to
do it.
Also, the new blacksmithed velium weapons also proc at level 1.

Theres nothing that will make me happier to make a few pieces of banded for
a real newbie than to see them auction for raw hide ( I mean make it for
free or reduced price ). I usually let rawhide rot anyways, hehe
Also, Don't forget to collect those High Quality (HQ) bear skins ( also
called pelts by players, even though actual item name is skin ), they
usually sell for a fairly nice amount ( 30-35pp on my server ) and since the
Thurgadin prayer shawl quest was discovered, every 50+ druid and their
brother has been wanting to buy silk swatches to work on their tailoring,
save up and get a sewing kit to make them ( out of 2 spider silks ), you can
also make your own tattered armor out of a ruined bear ( or cat, because
barbarians can wear either large or medium armor ) and a pattern for which
piece you want.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I can think of a couple of questable magic
weapons obtainable round about your level.
Bloodforge Hammer:
http://eqdb.allakhazam.com/quest.html?quest=641
You have to kill Trumpy Irontoe (level 5 rogue) in Qeynos (get him to
run outside the bar he is in by asking him 'Who is Sragg?' or somesuch,
and kill him when he gets as far as a nice quiet back alley). That is
easy enough, but to get the quest reward you must take his head to
Kaladim, which is on the other side of the world. If you /ooc
occasionally on the way, asking if anyone is porting to Butcherblock and
would they mind taking a poor newbie along for the ride, you might blag
a free teleport there, but please don't beg and spam for one or you
definately won't get one...
You may also need to raise faction with the quest giver to get the
hammer - handing in a few Crushbone belts from orcs in GFay should do
the trick.
The hammer is 2HB, dmg13, delay 50, save vs magic +10
Fang of the Wolf:
http://eqdb.allakhazam.com/quest.html?quest=1026
Collect lots of 'a patch of gnoll fur'. Combine four in a sewing kit to
make 'a gnoll fur patch', combine 4 of them to make a gnoll fur quarter,
combine four of them to make a patched gnoll fur bundle, which can be
used as a crappy cape or traded in for a fang of the wolf.
So you need 64 patches of gnoll fur in all and good enough tailoring to
make the combines (they trivial quite low, about skill 30 or so I
believe). That would be real tedious to collect, but if you're hunting
in Blackburrow anyway you may as well hang on any fur you find -
especially since most people leave the patches to rot on the corpses.
The weapon is Piercing, dmg 5, delay 26, barbarian only. Not very good
really, but it is magic so you can hit wisps etc.
Here is a link to a quest that can easily be done at your
level. the result is a neck item with some minor wis/mana
and as a right click will summon a no rent magic hammer. My
barbarian shaman did this quest at like level 3 or 4, and
still uses the item, at level 12.

Symbol of the Initiate Quest is easy. Symbol can be used to summon a magic
warhammer (6/30) and adds 1 to wis and 3 to AC. Also adds 3 mana (big
whoop). I used it til I got a Vellium mace at 15 and the Spine Chill Spear
that was given to me.

All you need to do is carry a note from Qeynos to Freeport and then return.
Depends how much money you have saved up. If _nothing_ else, go to Erudin,
find Ms. Orefinder, buy some sharpening stones, and turn those rusty weapons
into tarnished ones.
Better yet, replace that rusty mace with a cracked staff....a much better
weapon. Or, even better, if you can afford the 5 plat, go to Ye Magik shop
in Halas, and buy the regular 1hblunt staff there. If you have 10-15pp to
spend, auction that you want to buy a fine steel or velious spear.
There is a quest for your level for a Gavel of Justice...shaman 1hb.
However, I found it to be excruciatingly long and tedious....spent a very
long time camping for the quest item, and never did get it.
That's a long and fairly dangerous run for a level 7... even at level 14
there are places where I have to just run and hope nothing manages to
stun me. BUT if you're heading out Freeport way anyway, go to North Ro
and advertise for a derv group around your level. Dervs often carry
bronze weapons and a few gold on them. You can sell the bronze for
anything from a few gold to a few plat each to the vendors. You'll also
get a chance to grab some cutthroat insignia rings which a) increase your
AC and DEX and b) can be turned in for experience in South Ro (not sure
about the safety of doing *that* at level 7 either, however - I've only
been to the very edge of Oasis near the shore once, and the whole time we
were there my partner was jumping at the sound of every /ooc
giant/spectre to inn!
Annnnnnd if you keep going yet *again* and run all the way to G Fay then
you can hunt orcs and sell the belts.
Then again, you *could* stay around Halas a little longer and hunt the
bear cubs relentlessly - my first 7 levels I found about 4 or 5 HQ bear
skins - unfortunately I sold 3 to vendors before I found out how much
they were worth - the other two sold for 35PP each in East Commons.
Oh yeah - and if you DO run to Freeport - do NOT run through Kithicor at
night.

Long and Dangerous? At 7? He's already fighting in Blackburrow. That's as
dangerous as it gets (with the exception of the Vengeful's).
Halas-Everfrost-BB-Qeynos Hills-NQeynos-SQeynos. Gnolls at the entrances
are 4th-5th. Just do the run during a populated time.
<snip original>
The quest poster said from Qeynos to Freeport. Qeynos Hills-West Karana-
North Karana-East Karana (all lovingly populated with violent nasties
like hill giants, werewolves, gorge wolves (or something of the sort),
lions, griffins (sp?)... although a friend kindly showed me that running
along the waterline was fairly safe as long as you watched for raiders) -
then you have a choice - King Xorb's Something, where you have minotaurs
and muddites wandering free, able to stun and kick your ass in a very
short time - Runnyeye which has SEVERAL fairly strong gobs even on the
first floor which enjoy stunning you and then again creaming you (and
there are lots around so they'll be happy to join in) - Misty Thicket -
Rivervale - Kithicor Wood (running along the edge - in the DAY only - is
again safe as safe can be - West Commons - East Commons - Freeport - then
back. OR you can skip Xorb/Runnyeye/MistyThicket/Rivervale by running
from East Karana through High Hold to Kithicor Wood - but several players
I've talked to have said that High Hold is extremely dangerous and that
the Runnyeye route was the easier way. This was at level 11 or 12.
OTOH, I'd say the vengefuls are a fairly safe bet now. Maybe not the one
that cons red - a friend gave me a 'twink' in the form of a jade chodikai
prod, I have no idea how good that is, so it's hard to tell how much that
influenced my winning against the reds - but the yellows are pushovers.
(ack - there's a lot of ()s in that long paragraph. sorry.)

The poster erred. The actual run is from Halas to Qeynos. Trivial at level
7. Nowhere near the problem of getting to freeport.
I had no problem getting a lvl 6 barbarian shaman to Rivervale and Misty,
and
from there FP is easy. It just takes patience.
Ahhhh okay yeah. That's an incredibly easy run, then.

That'd make you what, about level 3? :P
Fine steel weapons drop from the higher levels killing Frost Giants
and Icy Orc. They probably don't want to leave the camp to sell the
fine steel. They get about 5pp per weapon selling them to a merchant.
Offer to buy a fine steel spear and/or morningstar for 5pp. Be
polite. They will likely jump at it and offer you 200 gold for 13
platinim and a stack of rations. They may even give a weapon to you
for asking nicely.
Or collect a buttload of gnoll fur and get a Fang of the Wolf....
