He was unhappy because he is falling behind on the damage scale. Monks,
etc., around our level are getting new skills that make them really great,
and Davian's new skill is a new sword, except he doesn't have one yet. We
have to go camp for it. Bleh.
The sword is called The Ghoulbane. It is a 1h sword, but it hits as hard as
a 2h sword. And it randomly casts the spell "Dismiss Undead." There are
other holy swords, too... The Soulfire and The Firey Avenger ... but we're
not big enough to get those, I don't think.
It takes more than two people to camp for a holy sword... but usually it is
just the two of us together. We don't really have a Group that we go
hunting with. However, Dundee and Shay have said that they will camp with
us in Guk for his sword. "We love camping!" Dundee said. "Guk is the
best!" Then he added: "We'll camp for Hours and Hours and Hours!" I made
him promise not to complain while we were down there, because it would make
Davian feel badly.
It will be VERY hard for me not to complain too... probably harder than
Dundee... but I am going to try my best. Shay isn't really a problem.
She's a trooper. And there is a mace down there for her somewhere, too.
And she likes loot. So we'll try to get that while we're there. There are
some Gator Skin Pants down there for me, too. So maybe the trip won't be so
bad.
The thing is, dungeons are really hard for me. Cause of the sickness thing.
And not knowing where we have to go or what we have to kill to find the
sword (and the mace and the pants), makes me a little wary. Cause then we
have to look around. And looking around tends to make me sick... because
Verant, in their infinite wisdom, made the hallways tight and windy, and the
camera bumps into them.
I'll let you know how it goes.
KJ.
Can you handle zoning 5 times? =)
Arena to Lake Rathetear
Lake Rathtear to Rath Mountains
Rath Mountains to Feerot
Feerot to Innothule Swamp
Innothule swamp to Upper Guk
Hmm actually either way it's 5 times:
East Freeport to North Ro
North Ro to Oasis
Oasis to South Ro
South Ro to Innothule Swamp
Innothule Swamp to Upper Guk
Ok, only 5 times, now you have NO EXCUSE not to camp! =)

At least Ghoulbane is in Upper Guk. The Ebony Bladed Longsword is in
LOWER Guk. On a rare random spawn.
Yes, the Ranger-only sword is at the bottom of a dungeon.

Yeah, but you don't have to kill a high level Ranger over and over again to
get it, do you?
Actually, I take that back until I find out for myself.... cause it sounds
likes something Verant would do :P~
the mace is in lower guk. Its much harder down the pits.

Yep.
I'll freely admit I'm not the best roleplayer *shrug* But it seems to me
Verant could have easily found a much more in character way to do it... I
mean, instead of having paladins kill another paladin over and over for a
holy sword, they could have easily turned it into an in character "quest"
just by having some npc say "The evil shadowknight NPC1 has stolen
Ghoulbane... kill him and you may keep the sword as your reward." Then
spawn it in the NPC's inventory instead of wielding it.
Or a statement like "There is a fallen paladin among us, NPC2 has turned to
evil and abandoned his faith... the church would ask that you relieve him
of the holy relic he still wields, by any means necessary"
Or you can just wait and buy it off the wizard killstealers, I suppose.

Hmm. Think it would be instant death for a level 25 Druid?
I doubt it would be much xp considering the crowd I'd be with, but I might
get some cast-off magic from the rest of you, and if nothing else I could
keep you company...
Who knows, I might even be able to help. Lelaine helped ME enough...

I don't think so. But maybe things would be aggro to you that wouldn't be
aggro to the rest of us? Unsure. I've heard the frogs are a little
swarmy. Wouldn't want you to be killed by swarmy green frogs.

That'd be nice... :)
KJ.
Great, Syl. :)
So that's five now. Hiwei said he would come periodically... so that's
six. Maybe Ingot can fill in for hiwei when he's not around.
Maybe camping will be better if you're with friends.

Heh. Saying the frogs are a little swarmy is like saying the ocean is a
little wet. Good luck there, and make sure you snare or root every frog
that runs. Letting a runner escape there is death.

Well, our camping party fell through. So davian went down by ourselves. I
kind of liked it. Going down by ourselves to do something that nobody else
wanted to do, I mean. It made me feel independant, and I *like* to feel
independant.
We moved very... very... slowly. Each frog took me a bubble of mana to
kill. We would med to full after every fight *just in case* something
happened.
We found where the ghoulbane spawns, and killed off some of the Shin Lord's
underlings. We realize now that we will need others (preferably one or two
monks and a cleric. We'd like to have an enchanter, too... but we've heard
the frogs don't like him very much.. and they are awfully swarmy) to go down
there with us to actually get the ghoulbane. Some of that stuff down there
is white and yellow to us at level 30. The shin lord will very likely be
red.
We did get a few things, though:
1) A neat neck-piece for Davian.
2) A neat wrist-piece for Davian.
3) Mesh pants and shoulder-piece for me.
4) Other various mesh pieces that we don't have anyone to give them to yet.
The other good part about it is that the place where the shin lord is is a
pretty decent place. I mean - there are little rooms in there with low blue
things that we can kill. I actually made some experience. Davian's
experience bar moved pretty quickly, though... just in the wrong direction.
One time, a frog got away. We kind of stood around and waited for the
inevitable. The inevitable came, and it brought friends. I got a gate off
with five of them beating on me. Davian didn't.
The second time, I got too close to The Shaman Pit, and they ALL jumped in
at once. Crazy. Davian taunted a few off so that I could gate out, cause
he knew he was dead anyway. I got a gate off for the second time with five
of them beating on me.
The third time, Hiwei was with us. We all have to stay on The Same Frog, so
that I can Ensnare it and then blast it before Ensnare wears off. Well, one
time, we weren't on the same frog. So one got away. The inevitable
happened again. I gated, again... but this time, I was smart enough to bind
myself where the tanks were, so I could wolf them for the
four-zone-run-back-to-the-corpse thing.
The best part, though, was that I didn't get sick. At all. Even walking
over the balance beam.
Odd.
KJ.

I was planning to drop by but I got detoured by those quests I told you

I've found that you have to switch to Grasping Roots when trains are a
concern.
Unfortunately, "The Quest For Whence We Came" is the worst quest in the
game, and EVERYBODY gets to do it at one time or another.
There is part A to the quest, where you get to where you were... and then
there is part B of the quest, to get to where you were before you left part
A.
I hate that quest.
> I've found that you have to switch to Grasping Roots

It doesn't last long enough. Ensnare works pretty good - *when everybody is
on the same frog* ... that is the key.
KJ.
Been doing my ranger thing lately, so I haven't tried it with any other
characters that can actually do a good DOT, but my current parting shot with
the ranger is usually something like flame lick. The mob has a tendancy to
wait a bit too long before it flees, so the FL kicks in just as it starts to
flee at full speed. 10 steps later, it is going in slow motion, and it is
either dead by the spell or melee in another 10.
Since my ranger doesn't have a good DD <yet>, I have lost a few still, but
they are moving so slow after the flame lick I could make a sandwich before
they get back.

The wrist piece is gettting sold or given away. It's an item for a low to
mid level magic user, of no help to either of us :)
Davian
That wouldn't work in Guk.
The mobs are level 20 - 25... they start to flee under half life, but
that's still a couple hundred hit points... they would reach help before
the DOT dropped them. And that means fighting at least 3 more frogs
without healing/meditating.
Davian
Well, they get out of range SO quickly... i mean - Kaboom! And they're
around the corner... and they are fast runners... soooo... I find it's
better to root and DD. It usually works. I mean - we probably killed a
hundred frogs, and had 2 get away.
However, i have that upgrade to Flame Lick now (Immolate, I think it's
called) ... so maybe I will try that next time. :)
The problem is, though, that I can't watch ALL the frogs' health... and
when there is more than one tank beating on more than one frog, it's hard
to tell which one is going to flee first.
KJ.
If those frogs are casting wolf in a dungeon, they are using EQE. I think
they ought to be banned as cheaters.

Remember, there are frog shamans all over the place... so just about every
frog we fight has been wolfed by them. The result is that even at half
health... they can take off like a bat out of hell when they start to run.
If they haven't already been snared before the run AI kicks in, they're
going to get away. Trying to get close enough to be able to stop and cast
root on them once they've run is near impossible... especially since you
only have about one attempt before they reach help.

|If those frogs are casting wolf in a dungeon, they are using EQE. I think

Hey, in Dagnor's Cauldron, the Aqua Goblins tried to get away from me by
running down the crater. I would root them, try to shoot at them and get the
'target too far above/below you' message. (BTW Mr. McQuaid, the archers go on
TOP of the walls.) Then they would whip out their puny little bows and shoot
back.
I want those Goblins banned.
Though I am glad that there are apparently no Aqua Goblin Fletchers.
|Heh. See..? You folks who think *I* run our little partnership? You are
|wrong, wrong, wrong.
Sure. Just let us know when you're bringing him there again.
My keyboard kind of freezes whenever I cast a spell, so anything I do like
selecting a party member via the F keys has to wait for the exact right time
or I just plain miss the keystroke.
Never really thought about it, but now I wonder if something like F2<select
2nd party member>, /assist, will get you the monster the tank is beating on
or a random monster that is beating on the tank.
I still don't like dungeons. I go there for loot and experience, but if
there is any other option available I take it.
The other night I was in a group in Black Burrow. We spent some time running
around looking for tough stuff to kill which meant we spent a lot of time
going "Where are you? Meet me at the entrance."
We finally gave up and just camped the entrance. I mean everyone there was
training everything in the damn place to the entrance. It couldn't have
worked out better if we had a SoW puller bringing stuff to us and we didn't
have to share the experience after the person zoned. Just 3 of us in a group
killing trains of 5-6 assorted mobs stuck in the entrance. Would have been
nice to get some phat lewt like giant snake fangs too, but there was so much
trash loot like bows and cloth I don't think we could have made more money
doing anything else.

Sorry, I'm no longer a level 8 or under paladin in Freeport. In fact, I
never saw freeport until I was level 15.
I suppose I could make a mule paladin to get the quest started.
You are SURE you have to be level 8 in freeport? If so, that is absolutely
HORRIBLE and should be fixed ASAP.
