They should be much more evil than that. Give the soulbinders some
port spells. They should port anyone who attacks them somewhere
nasty and bind them there.
Permanently, never to be rebound anywhere else.
I was thinking along those lines. Perhaps the Soulbinder "steals" their
soul rather than binding it, rendering them unable to be rebound
anywhere ever again. Well, they could do the quest to recover their
soul, but that involves giving Yelniak 200 burned out lightstones <EG>.

Can you imagine the xp that could be gained if your lowbie character could
just whack on high level NPC's, knowing that they can't/won't fight back?
Even if it is just for the skills, it is still an exploit that
inconveniences other players.
I could see if someone accidently hit the Soulbinder a time or two, that
he/she might be the forgiving sort... but after a few swings, when it's
obvious the attack is deliberate, a nice translocate somewhere inconvenient
might be appropriate.
I say after a few swings, because not everyone who attacks an NPC does so
deliberately. A case in point is when my brother went to visit his beloved
Dwarven king for the first time as a newbie. Humbly approaching his
majesty, he proceeded to type out, "H-a-i-l..." This was before he knew to
re-map his auto-attack key........my brother was turned into a grease spot
within moments after hitting the 'a' key.
To make it so anyone who attacks a Soulbinder is instantly
translocated/bound someplace nasty would be unjust for the innocent newbies
and the occasionally careless or accident-prone veteran. Make it so the
Soulbinder does that after reaching, say, half hit points....that would make
the surprise even nastier for the exploiters....
Yes yes, we all can see the exploit. We are just hashing out proper
punishments. If you can come up with something better than being
permanently bound in the middle of a zone with no air please post, we
are still open to improvements on this plan.
th
He's REALLY dedicated to his job...
In this case You just dont have to be a Veteran to be able to do or know
about the xploit.....Seems anyone can take advantage....(which is not always
the case i have found)
Now I have never particapated in a gaurd killing (though i have hit them by
accident and died) but what is the difference here ?
..... one persons gain is maybe *anothers* loss.
I just dont see the differnce of killing a SB, and the killing of the gaurd
by the Toll Booth in the Commons? ...that gaurd may be there to benenfit a
low level by protection but it seems more than not that he is there to
bennifit others from giving xp......hummm
Now I know this is probably a slanted view of things after reading the other
posts but i feel the questions are:
1. wow what is the SB respawn time because i am gonna get that 2hb(that i
have neglected) up real fast.....Woot !
2. What faction (if any) does this change?
3. I sure know where i am coming for my next hell level
Now all that said i am sure that i will never try to attempt killing a SB
(cause i believe in good Carma) but it sure sounds awfully tempting :)
ohhh well I had to say that :)

The guards at the toll booth in West Commonlands are evil. They are
part of the Freeport Militia. Killing them raises faction with the

Easy. When you whack a guard, he whacks back. EXP is gained at risk. When
you whack a SB, he just stands there. Free EXP. Verant has stated that the
model is EXP gained without risk is an exploit, such as taking advantage of
known pathing issues, attacking Mobs from a vantage where they cannot attack
back, and so on. So by Verant's definition, it's an exploit.
And, they fight back.

While you're at it, allow the Nexus Scions to TP you to the Hole.
Of course, this would only as a last shot before death. That way the people
who accidently attacked (as I do to my guild trainers on a monthly basis)
can just sit there and take their punishment and avoid the penalty. Either
that, or gate out.

There's also a quest based around killing corrupt guards. Verant intends
for them to be taken down. They intend for SB's to be there to perform a
service. As far as I know, there's no quest about taking down the SB's.
How do you think someone figured out those quests for killing corrupt
guards? Likely by trying it to see what happened.
Probably by being told to get what ever item that so and so guard has,
usually the questgiver tells you who you have to kill.
Port and bind would be stretching their capabilities a bit imo. A port to a
random choice of a) Neriak third gate b) Plane of fear c) Paladins guild,
Kaladim. Might make for some interesting cr's
Maybe some spells that drains xp might be adequate deterrent.

I think the Soulbinders should be infused with an aura of reflection. That way
any damage thrown at them is returned to the attacker with no harm to the
Soulbinder. Would solve the problem. :)

No, its a phenomena of verant being sloppy. They eventually fix it by
having the npc attack as they did with the gnome vendor in freeport
people used as a "trainer." So don't worry, one day the people
whacking on the Soubinders will get a surprise ;) Another NPC you can
do the same thing with is Izera the dark elf for a dismal rage quest,
she is in SRO.

The guy is still availible to players for binding purposes. That
inconsiderate jerk does not WANT to kill him, so don't worry ;)
Similarly Izera can still have the quest note handed to her in sro
while someone is beating on her (but sadly this quest is STILL BROKE
ANYWAY)

Actually its more complex, I think they have to REWRITE the soulbinder
or other npcs like that so they attack (or just turn on attack for
them) Either way, they can only do that by a server side zone patch
once they fix it.

Find the @ and the . if you really need to.
I thought they had made it so there were now un-attackable MOBS. Perfect
use for that feature I would have thought.
One new feature with Luclin is untargettable mobs like the maneating,
rooting, dotting, deathtrap plants in Echo Caverns (nasty!!!).
You need to be able to target the soulbinder to hail him correctly.
/D
It's not just PC's who do that to Izera...while hunting the AC before
as the only 40+ player in the zone, I saw a sand giant whale on her
for literally 2 hours one day. She never fought back, never got below
99% health, and just stood there or walked non-chalantly around
while this giant hit and hit and hit...I guess he was training hand to
hand...
Untargetable mobs. Unfortuantely, it's difficult to ask an untargetable mob
to bind you.
Well, OK, but they have the potential of fighting back. If I were to go
around killing them, I would be using the same method.

I couldn't resist the urge to attack the guy with me ( at the time ) level
2 Rogue. I had just bound, and was low on food, so it was a good option
for me =)
I attacked him, and was amazed that he didn't fight back... at first.
After about 30sec - 1 minute of piercing him ( did 3 points total, I think
), he attacked back and smeared me.
I did the same trick at level 4 for about a minute and he didn't attack
back, so I shot an arrow at a nearby guard. That did the trick.

Nasty. I like the way you think.
My husband and I were bouncing around some fun ideas last
night after reading this thread. His was that after you
attack
a SB your soul becomes permantely "unbound". You never know
where you're going to spawn when you die or gate. The
middle
of Misty Thicket, the bottom of the LoIO, somewhere in the
Hole.
It would make for some interesting CR's to be sure.
But I have a bigger mean streak than he does. After you
attack for, oh, say five minutes or so (to protect the poor
souls that forget to change the auto attack key), the SB
should
perma-bind you right in front of him, then become KOS to
you.
He should hit like a Nexus Scion. I mean, the exploiters
like
attacking a defenseless target, might as well give
on-lookers
the same thrill... over and over again.
But in reality, what I think Verant will probably end up
doing is just make 'em hit like the Scions, and leave it at
that.

This would be good. I would also like to see the Soulbinder Bind you before
he quads you for over 2400dmg. At least then, if you had attacked by
accident, your body will be close. This would save a small bit of
embarrassment by knowing that "at least I got bound" :-)
C
Conning will show you which guards appear to like you and which ones
don't like you as much. Now take into account your own faction and if
you are good the good guards are the ones that like you and the ones
that give you an ugly look are corrupt. If you faction is good reverse
that. Its pretty simple really.
th
Depending on your opening faction, the 2 giard factions con differently.
So they figured out the quest through reverse engineering?
Kill the mob for the quest loot ... but how do I know it's quest loot? Well,
it does seem to serve no other real purpose.
I have quest loot ... who do I give it to? How many do I give? Do I give
anything else with this loot?
Sorry, your argument doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Please try again.

Ah yeah forgot that part. They DO riposite sometimes as does Izera in
sro. So if you want to train up on them (until they fix it and suprise
you) Do so from BEHIND ;)
AAHHAHA thats funny.. Never seen something attacking her, a sand giant

attackin her from the front I guess. Someone in another post here
mentions getting riposited to death by a souldbinder, so I guess best
to attack them from behind.

Nope, they work on a quest-like system (Responding words and actions

will give quests and rewards no matter where he's standing when not in

Maybe not... I pulled a nibbler in Dalnir and not only Riposted it while

Um, try actually killing one...
I took a few whacks at one and despite a few solid 130+ hits,
its health bar didn't budge. So as an experiment, I stood there
for about 30 minutes slashing the hell out of it (I'm already
maxed at 2HS, so I wasn't even gaining any weapon skills from
the test), and after countless hits totalling many, many, many
thousands of HP, the Soulbinder's health bar had gone down
one pixel -- *maybe* two.
They have like a million HP.
If having to hack at something for 8 hours or so to get one
kill is "free" exp, I'd hate to see "non-free" exp.
Your time would be far more profitably spent in a regular
exp group, killing light blues at no real risk.
Doing something that makes you *less* exp than the laziest
form of regular hunting hardly seems like an "exploit" in
my book.
Furthermore, they wouldn't *need* a zillion HP if
they just kicked the crap out of you like the portal Scions
do. So I have to wonder if they were given a zillion
HP specifically because they were designed not to strike
back.
If they "fix" Izera at the same time they "fix" the Soulbinders
(and I'm still not convinced this isn't "working as intended"),
there's going to be a lot of carnage in South Ro -- she's
level 55 and cons "scowling, ready to attack" to most people.
As long as she's passive, that's not a problem, but if they
make her act like any other NPC, she's going to lay waste
to most of the zone. Remember how obnoxious Dorn and Gix
and the Dragoon were when you were newbies? Imagine that
happening all the way up to level 60...
They still dont attack, but now they are lvl 1s so that the most people cant
get skill increases from fighting them.

I think they should know where they will be bound. I suggest near the

That would rock, if they did that, I'd give it a go. Imagine being just 2

Was in DL waiting on the spires last night. 15 minutes, 5 minutes, 3
minutes, 1 minute, about to activate.
Cleric and warrior...cleric starts to cast complete heal...
Norrath spires begin to cast a spell...
Warrior hits Scion for 22, 54,3...
Scion hits warrior for 1791, 345, 352...
Complete heal lands....
All parties ported up...
I zone fast, and see Onee pop into the Nexus with about
-4 billion hitpoints, at which point WHILE SHE'S STILL
ZONING, her hps climb all the way to full.
Her and the cleric laugh and laugh.

Give soulbinder a million HP. Make them like a 75 level Wizard and give
them the ability to summon a 70th level dragon as their pet who attacks the
person and party that agroed soulbinded. Then once their threat is
eliminated the dragon goes back into the abys and all the newbies in the

Oh. And each person in party that agroed Soulbinded upon their death will
lose one item of equipment that is random. Got to love that punk ass 60

Just my two cents.

You have forced me to rethink. How about a random spot midway between

including possibly down? Modify swimming so that PAGE UP can actually
bring you all the way back to swimming deeper. Add that when a
Soulbinder kills you, you always respawn with rez effects until you
complete a quest for them to restore your normal binding ability.
The solution you seek is the one I posted last week (or was that the
week before, they all look alike). The exact center of The Grey. Even
a lizard is gonna have a dang hard time holding his breath all the way
to a zone line after respawning with neither buffs nor items.

ROFL! Sounds like the kind of thing I'd try
(once), just to see if I could pull it off.
I've been tempted to buff my 55 Paladin up to full HP/AC,
then try to land a hit on the Scion *just* before the
portal whisks me away. Why? For the sheer challenge
of trying to time it well enough to survive the
experience.

Ok, first the obvious answer: what about kiting?
The obvious response is a) the scion is probably very mr (if not
immune to root/snare) and b) they may have some range attack as well.
Dunno. Never seen anyone try to kite a scion. Would be interesting to
see what druid epic plus a couple of winged deaths would do....
I'll have to go along with that. The only caster I have is
a naked 48 wizard with Tboots. I guess I could try
to Nuke kite him. Lemme get Ice Comet first, though.
:-)
Wouldn't scions have summon?
That's what the folks thought about the boss of Sanctus
Seru, too.

Sure, it was an "exploit." Whatever. If they forgot to give him the
ability to
summon and he couldn't path up to the roof by magical teleport like level
30 mobs in Kunark do, I wouldn't really consider that an exploit.

Doh. They have killed Inquisitor Seru already? What did he drop? =)
I thought he was supposed to be the *uber* mob of Luclin.

Heh -- you're going to love this one...
People are *supposed* to figure out how to get into
the Inquisitor's room via the locked doors (presumably
through some key quest) before they tackle him.
But the people that killed him bypassed the locks and went up
and over the wall and come down through a hole in the ceiling.
It took 45 minutes(!) to kill the guy. And when they did,
they looted:
"Cuirass of Sad Exploitation" ("Cuirass" is a fancy
name for a breastplate) which had NEGATIVE 99 to
ALL stats, resists, modifiers, AC, you name it.
And:
I forget the name, but some sword with INCREDIBLE
stats, best ever seen in the game, but flagged None/None
for allowable race/class.
ROFL!
Gosh do ya think Verant saw that coming and designed
a way to give the finger to anyone who killed the
Inquisitor *without* coming in the locked door?
(Presumably, triggering the doors the "right" way will
cause the Inquisitor to respawn with his "good" stuff.)
The game designers are starting to get clever. :-)

You were right, I *love* it. =)
Of course, a mage can mem Summon Waterstone and cast it before
he starts drowning :)
