Man am I pissed off! SHIT SHIT SHIT arrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhh SHIT!!!!!!!!!
I have spent the last 4 days at 10 hours a day trying to get to more
experience. But I'm still on the first bubble!
I've solo'd, I've grouped with 2 and with 5. Makes no damn difference! for
every 2 fight I win I lose 1 and this is fighting blues only. Seems like the
game always waits till I'm ahead and sends something to kill me. I'm not a
dumb guy, what the hell is going on! Is this a game intended on pissing
people off or entertainment. SHIT!
I'm in surefall fighting bears wolfs and in bb fighting gnolls.
I haven't bought any animation spell because it requires those damn tiny
daggers and there not available in Quenos. So I don't know how well they
work.
I hear people saying the enchanter class is fucked up and that druids and
bards can level up twice as fast. I bet that is true.
I'm done ranting thank you
PS I think I will try my luck entertaining children with my spells, I may
stand a better chance.

I've been able to solo Gnolls for the last two levels. I'm now 7th and well on
my way to 8th. Experance has been very easy to get as most mobs have been unable
to hit me thanks to my having two shield spells + other buffer and debuffer
spells in effect. Whats more the continual damage spell we Enchanters get at
forth is very nice in combat. It iwll do 10 points instant damage and then about
7 every four seconds untill it wears off.
As for the animation spells. They are very nice and will swing a fight your way
without too much trouble. To get the daggers just hop on the boat and go to
Erudin, should take all of 20 minuts to get there, buy the daggers and then gate
back.
I think the problem is that people dont want to have to learn how a class works.
The Enchanter class has been very good to me thus far and I look forward to
making magic items next level.
I do sympathize. The Enchanter is a long, slow, painful climb.
I'll try and address some of your issues (I'm 12th lvl FWIW)

Tiny Daggers are an absolute must. And they can be gotten
via a short boat ride into Erudin. The merchant in the
Craftmasters guild will sell them for 1s1c each.
>I hear people saying the enchanter class is fucked up and that druids and

They are screwed up in that our spell resist rates
are exceedingly high verses the lvl MOB; all our spells
are either totally resisted or not resisted at all
(usually the former).

why is it that lvl 1-6 took say, 10 hours a lvl and lvl 7 has taken 40 hours
and im still on the first buble.
I guess im gonna be the debuffer buffer for a large party wow, gee maybe i
can hold there weapons too.
I know i'm being a sour puss, I'm sorry. I was having so much fun till I
reach lvl 7. it like the game just got 500 times harder for me.
Is there anybody out there that is tying to solo at lvl 7?
the blues dont seem to give me any exp. shit when i gave the gnolls tooth to
the captan of the guard it said I gained exeperance but i looked and I still
saw no change, then I got 8 more fangs from a friend (one at a time) each
time it said I gained expereance.... nope nothing.
it looks to me that i whould have to kill min of 100 blues before I can
level up to 8. Plus if i die it's like i lost 3 kills.
does this seem right? is this fun?
here is my attact from begining to end. (SOLO)
fighting blues
step 1: do the buff's on me first that the craping minor shielding,
strengthen, and haze.
step 2: i go to bb stay on top or down to the first tear, or bears near
surfall glade.
step 3: hit them with suffocating sphere over and over untill there dead.
step 4: give myself a minor illusion and meditate my mana back (all gone)
I used to do this (and still do on the biger fights)
1: meserize
2: tashan
3: enfeeble
4: suffocating sphere till there dead.
then after im all done, somebody sneaks up and kills me wether im invisable
or a illusion. but it doesnt fail. kill two blues get killed repeat. oh and
they just drop out of the sky to kill me too.

As soon as we blast with an offensive spell, the MOB wont look at the tanks

and with our limited wardrobe and AC / HP I'm what is know as a minute

But I wont give up for now, gonna try and stick it out. but if I don't see
lvl 7.5 (I'm 7.1) by Wednesday I may give up.
Just wondering... if it takes me 1 week at 10 hours a day to get from 7 to
8, how long with it be till I reach 12th?
I have a sneaking suspicion the game was easier for enchanters then, than it
is now, who knows.

No question about it 7th is one of the hardest levels for enchanters.
How are you fighting? DO you start your solos with mesmerize?? Do you
enfeeble and tashan while they are mesed, then SuffSphere them to get
them to attack you? Why don't you have a pet? Its only a short boat
ride to Erud. If your afraid to go there for the tiny daggers your
going to have real problems when you get to 8th and realize the only
place to get the level 8 animation is in Highhold keep.

Level 7 is a killer for all magic users I believe. I'm a 7th level
magician, and trust me it's no picnic either. My 4th level spells, which
had been such a boon when I first got them, are now conspicuously
underpowered when compared to critters that give me decent exp. My pet is no
longer strong enough to hold the monsters at bay while I stand back and
cast - I have to take the hits to keep IT alive so it can keep fighting, and
they still die a lot more than they used to. I didn't get any new defensive
spells to help me survive this, and my lack of earlier combat means I
actually had to spend some of my training points on 2-H blunt so I can hit
things with my staff.
Once I get to level 8 though.... boy will things change. My best damage
spell will do better than 30 points of damage, significantly more than most
of the warriors I travel with. I get the next set of pets, who will
hopefully be tough enough to tank for me for a level or two. I'll get my new
shielding spell, plus a nifty damage shield. I'll be able to turn invisible.
Looking at the enchanter's spell list, you'll get root, which is always a
nice spell to have. You get your new pet of course, a better shielding spell,
Chaotic Feedback which does very nice damage indeed (almost as much as a
wizard spell of the same level) plus can stun your opponent, soothe and
alliance to help you avoid battles when you want, plus all of your nifty
illusions.
The transition from 7 to 8 seems to be the biggie. It's when magic users
stop being second class adventurers and become forces to be reckoned with.
So, accordingly, it's a tough one. It seperates the wheat from the chaff. We
get a lot of power later on, so it's only right that at some point we have
to work a little harder to earn it.

Vendril - lvl8 Enchanter, Karana
If you have the infamous boat-crash bug, that's a different
issue than being an enchanter.
>why is it that lvl 1-6 took say, 10 hours a lvl and lvl 7 has taken 40 hours
>and im still on the first buble.
7 is tough because it's right at the cusp before
hitting a new bracket of spells. Trust me when I say
that you'll be very happy when you hit 8th. The
same phenomenon will occur when you're 10-11th.
>I guess im gonna be the debuffer buffer for a large party wow, gee maybe i
>can hold there weapons too.
Even though you don't feel you're helping, grouping
is still the best way. Safer for you and groups in general
are more aggressive at going after larger and more frequent
game. If you have a good group, you'll get back more xp than
you'll ever "lose" from not going solo.
>Is there anybody out there that is tying to solo at lvl 7?
Don't even try. EQ as a whole is balanced for group play;
soloists either have to be exceedingly conservative or they
end up dead. Some classes do have an easier time than others
at soloing (Druids, Bards, Shamans, Shadowknights), but
you are not one of them.
Again, group, group, group. That's the way Enchanters
make it up the ladder.
>the blues dont seem to give me any exp. shit when i gave the gnolls tooth to

Blues do give you xp and that's the way to go if you
insist on soloing. They don't give lots of xp, but
slow and steady is the only way. Whites and above should
only be tried if you're near a zone border (and only
rarely).
If you are in a group, buff your group and go after
whites and yellows. A lot of your spells will be resisted
(my main gripe against my chosen class), but your
party will still have your buffs.
As for gnolls teeth, that's a low lvl quest and won't
give xp at that point. It does give decent money
and faction adjustment so keep doing it.

Good so far. When you hit 8th, you'll change to Lesser Shielding.
When you hit 12th, you'll change to Mist.
>step 2: i go to bb stay on top or down to the first tear, or bears near
>surfall glade.
Beware of bears. Cros and Holly will KOS you if you are
attacking (or being attacked by) bears/wolves. Frankly I
just don't hunt there anymore. Not worth the grief.
(but one day, those two will be made to feel my pain!)
>step 3: hit them with suffocating sphere over and over untill there dead.
Suggest you mix in the 1st lvl DD spell with it (forgot it's name).
It's not as strong, but costs less mana. You can cast it during
the gap of time when you're recovering from casting Sphere.
When you hit 8th, you'll replace the 1st lvl spell with
Chaotic Feedback.
I assume you're hitting it with your weapon as well.
Helps keep your mana costs down.
>step 4: give myself a minor illusion and meditate my mana back (all gone)
Fine.
One big addition I would add is Pendril's Animation
(I don't know if they ever got around to fixing Juli's).
Animations can't be given orders (my other big gripe)
but in general, animations will attack whichever MOB is
attacking you. They never miss, do a quick and easy
5-10 pts per strike. Not as much as a dedicated fighter,
but certainly does add up. Pendril's main weakness
is that it has few hit points but that isn't an issue
if the MOB is attacking you.
When you hit 8th, replace it with Mithryl's Animation.

Avoid "bigger" fights unless you're near a zone border or are
surrounded with other PCs who can help you out if things
get nasty, especially if you insist on soloing.
I'm not sure that's a fair statement. Enchanters' spells work
against monsters' magic resistance. Verant intentionally jacks
up MR to prevent monsters from being rooted every time. The
collateral effect of this decision on Enchanters have been
corrected somewhat by the introduction of Tashan.
Later...
Irrelevant. Tashan itself is almost always resisted
by yellows and red, hence useless against high-powered
MOBs that large groups will tend to want to go after.
Even if it does work, the amount of resistance lowered
isn't that much (maybe 5%).
I don't care about the whys Verant jacking up
the MOBs MR; the consequence of that is that Enchanters
are basically useless against high lvl MOBs whereas
other spell casters (who go against fire, ice, etc)
can at least do partial damage against the same MOBs.
Even more embarrasing, even green MOBs end up resisting
enchanter spells a disturbing amount of the time
(roughly 30-40% or so). These are the creatures that
are supposed to be "easy kills" and they are to every
other class but Enchanters.
Now I've heard rumors that they are adding a higher lvl
line of spells based on Tashan (Tashana is supposed
to be a 16th or 20th lvl spell). If so, then this
might correct some of the drawbacks.

That's the role Enchanters play. If your not interested in being
primarily a support class who debuffs and buffs with occasional nukes
then STOP NOW because that's what Enchanters are. If you want to Nuke
that's what wizards do, if you want to heal that's what clerics do, or
you could be a Druid or Shaman and do it all. ;-)
I too wish that the Enchanting portion of Enchanters was more there.
It is currently practically non-existant. We get the same 5-6 spells
over and over basically. Where are the location or item enchantments?
Where are the debuffs? I have a few but I want more!!!! I'm greedy
hehe.

Like I said & is tough. It took me longer to do 7 then to go from 1-6.
At 7 things get better, you get a new DD spell (although you will suck
at it at first because it is the first enchanter spell that uses
evocation so naturally you will have a zero in that skill to start) we
get a new animation which we can get yellows from. Still the level to
make is level 12. At level 12 we start getting our first good debuffs
Whirl and Languid, plus another DOT spell, plus some nice utility
spells like enduring breath to breath underwater or not at all as the
case is, and serpent sight which gives infravision to humans.
There are definitely tough spots for each class, level 7 is the bad
one for most casters.

Not that long at all. With a yellow pet by your side you will soar
through level 8 easily and probably through 9 as well. 10 and 11 will
be slower but still not as hard as 7.
>
>I have a sneaking suspicion the game was easier for enchanters then, than it

Actually the reverse. At start of phase 4 beta we had no pets, no
illusions, no tashan, etc. We are the last class to be done and are
still being worked on. In fact we are due to get a speed up to our
casting times and tashan is getting a boost too. Hopefully our actual
enchanting spells will soon be more numerous or actually functional as
well.
Thanks Jeff

He he. My pleasure. <G>
And, as a followup, I *finally* got my magician to level 8 after many hours
of hard work (er... play... this is a game, right? <G>) and OH... MY....
GOD. What a difference! Shock of Blades does a very consistent 31 damage,
with an occassional 15 when the mob makes it's save. My pet is YELLOW! Yes!!
Not only is he far more durable, he does much more damage and even gets
double attacks now and then! This is far better than my first round of pets,
who started out blue when I first got them, with the occassional white.
(Still using earth... I may experiment with fire when I have the platinum to
spare... still have to buy Lesser Shielding and Shield of Fire first).
Invisibility was wonderfully cheap at only a bit over 4 gold. I can solo
mobs with ease that only a level before had me on the brink of death. I
think I may even be able to take on Corflunk.... <G> (Well, maybe not....)
Here's hoping your experience with your level 8 enchanter is as great as
mine with my magician. It was a long, hard road, but it was definitely worth
it. I understand your pets will be yellow also, and that is a HUGE
difference. I hope you make it soon!

Yeah yeah... Tashan is good, but it is the spell that's got resisted a
lot. Almost 8 out of 10 times when I cast Tashan on a blue mob it is
resisted. It becomes a piece of junk spell that I no longer have it
memorized in the slots.
I have a 12th level enchanter, and it is more difficult to survive and make
money in hack and slash oriented everquest, with this character than with
other types. It is however not more difficult to level since we get exp on
some green. Enchanters exp relationsship are better than most.
Tashan and other spells are ok .. just dont think you get a level 8 spell
powered up to 100 % at level 8. I allways try out my new spells when i get
them and they disappoint in the beginning.
Tashan is very good now - i can mesmerize, do tashan and enfeeble a monster
bringing a monster that ordinarily hits me as a "yellow" to be beaten like a
"blue". That is OK on a one on one basis.
However, when i work in a group having to do this to a group of orcs takes
forever, and costs all my mana. When i buff up 4 members and buff down 4
enemies, i only have my staff and my disorderly pet left. Very useless and
very frustrating .. no less if we loose and have run .. i leave with 100 %
health (didnt he do anything ? .. took no beating ?) Mists 6ac buff is not
impressive buff compared to clerics and shaman buffs.
When i work with this strategy alone i kill a grizzly that con blue/white
solo. Right after doing this a mist wolf kills me. I am in wilderness alone
and totally out. They seem to know it.
Lull and soothe are great spells for enchanters to pick out targets (lull
everybody and take out the one you want) I saw a ranger exploit it in a
bandit camp, and i successfully made a lot of money on a two bandit
stakeout. Lulling one .. killing the other, and vica versa. Great but
enchanters are not the only ones with lull. Paladins and clerics have them
too.
The enchanter is not well balanced. Actually he should have a better
mana/spell relation ship and his spells should cover groups and areas. And
his illusion should obey.
Very important; charm should work better. A level 12 spell that a level 12
enchanter is unhappy with ... make it work 100 % NOW .. you havent been an
enchanter until you walk up to a newbie camp as a gnome with a lion pet,
disguise yourself as a lamppost while u med and return as a half elf. That
illusion is crap. Improve charm. Make sure that cats and dogs can sit on
command.. and roll.

: I hear people saying the enchanter class is fucked up and that druids and
: bards can level up twice as fast. I bet that is true.
: I'm done ranting thank you
First of all, get those animations. Tiny daggers can be found in Erudin.
A short boat ride away. The animations serve two purposes. A) They do a
little more damage. B) They can taunt the monster away from you. Then
you can cast spells more efficiently.

First sympathy for the enchanter (I'm a mage)
Last, Agree, Pet's are great! Worth every copper spent. I'm 8th mage and I
worked my ass off to get the 8th Earth Elemental spell...(only 8th spell I
have, actually) He rocks and makes me soo much more effective.
