Just a question to see if anyone has had the same problem.
I managed to acquire a Ring of the Ancients last night so I figured I might
as well complete the JBoots quest. After acquiring a Shadowed Rapier and the
3,250gp necessary to complete said quest I proceed to make my way to Rathe
Mountains. After getting a port to North K rfom a friendly wizard I took a
nice, leisurely stroll (Erudite mage, who with the gold had a 29 AGI :) )
through South Karana.
I made my way to Rathe Mountains and parked myself right in Hasten
Bootstrutter's path, making sure to set myself next to one of the spots he
always stops to look around. I then proceeded to Hail him every time he ran by,
but alas he never stopped. Spent almost 2 hours, petitioned a GM for some
advice and got no response, trying to get him to talk to me, to no avail.
My question is, has anyone else had a problem getting him to respond to a
Hail? I realize that you have to be close, but I was stationed in a spot where
he stopped right next to me, yet he never responded. Now I get to spend a
couple of hours trudging to South K to camp Shadowmen for another rapier.
<sigh>
Any suggestions on getting the little gnome to stop?

Also, hit the hail command like 5 times in a row real quick. I noticed
sometimes NPC's don't respond to a hail every single time.
Aside from your hail problem (no idea, I've hailed him before and he's
stopped) there was a caster in RM one time looking for hasten who had a
great idea. Before camping, they duel someone and lose, then come back and
loot everything off of their body EXCEPT the rapier. Now they have a corpse
there holding the rapier and don't have to recamp shadows.
Or if you suffer from zone drop syndrome. If you get kicked while zoning,
all of your summoned objects remain. So rather than camping, just keep
zoning until dropped.
Are these exploits? I don't know actually, but they are ways to keep
summoned objects from vanishing when camping.

But seriously stand in front of him, so he will have to walk though you, as
he approaches and keep hitting h until you get a response, I have found with
sever NPCs that are moving you have to hit h several times for a response.
Get sow cast on you, he is fast. Once he is still you figure out why
he doesn't respond to hail .. he and lot of other npcs have VERY
SMALL hail range. Likeyou have to be right on him basically.
My druid stopped him for someone easily, ran up to him hitting
the h key a lot and jumping on his back basically.
Weird that you had a prob with this, I thought it was fairly
intuitive. That is pretty much how i hail any moving npc.

This may sound like a dumb question, but were you invisible when you
tried to hail him?

Get SOW and chase him and hail him. If you leave most of your
equipment in the bank, it helps.
He follows the same path, so just be patient. With lag it may be
you need to start hailing him while hes a bit in front of you.
I had NO problems hailing and stopping him, but I had to chase
him for 6-8 secs for him to stop.

it needs to be "Hail Hasten Bootstrutter"
or whatever it says when you target him and hit h
