I was checking out the shops in Halas and found some weapons I wasn't sure
about. Being that I'm a Shaman, I was interested mostly in blunt weapons.
I think it's Bloody Blades that has a small selection of maces, flails and
morning stars. There is no descriptive in front of them, like rusty, bronze
fine steel, etc.
Anyway, a while back I bought a flail from there. Now I recently bought a
fine steel morning star to replace the flail since it hits slightly harder.
But here's where I don't get it. I was playing around and found that the
fine steel morning star that I just bought was only worth around 5 or 6 plat
resale. ( I think the guy ripped me off on the price, but that is life) The
flail I had before (with no descriptive in front of it) was worth 11 plat
resale. And the flail's stats were a little less than the fs morning star.

Not a big deal, but just thought I'd ask.

FS is dropped loot from a mob. That is usually not worth as much.
It has a value selling to a vendor that is LOWER than store ones,
and lower than its apparent worth because it is a drop and
therefore is meant in a way to be sold to players. Such an item
in the store would retail for about 80 plat or so. For example,
people kill those plain dwarves in butcher since they have
store retail 2 hand axes. That is a rare drop for an npc monster/mob.
Since the 2 hand axe is retail the person can sell it to stores
for about 22 plat. If the item was FS which is really better,
it would sell for much less. FS is a fairly common drop in
places like cazic thule, The store retail kind is a super rare
drop, those particular dwarves being the only things I've
heard of having them.

If you bought th FS one for a reasonable price..
say 20 plat or so, don't worry. Really any price
up to the retail price of the one in stores that
is not as good like you say is a good price,
but FS is so prevelent that the price is usually
lower than that even.

Fine steel weapons are better than regular steel weapons but because a LOT
of monsters above lev 20 drop fine steel weapons I guess the game designers
wanted to make them part of the "player driven economy" rather than
something they sold to NPCs for a lot of quick money. Regular steel are
often found on higher level guards and sell for more money even though they
suck compared to fine steel. You can normally buy a fine steel weapon from a
player coming back from cazic thule (the fine steel weapon shopping mall)
for 3-10 pp depending on what kind. Daggers, short swords etc. are 6ish,
longswords, morning stars, scimitars are 8ish, 2h swords, greatstaffs etc.
are around 8 to 10. Least that's how much I usually charge which is a good
bit more than the NPCs will give and a LOT less than the NPC will charge you
for a crappy regular steel weapon, so it's a good deal for both people,
buyer and seller.

Thanks for the info guys.
I paid 13 plat for a fs morningstar. Maybe a tad high, but it's better than
the steel flail I got in the shop, and besides I got 11 plat when I sold the
flail back!

Anyway, thanks again.

Oh, one other thing that's been bothering me.
I'm 4th circle. (10th level...) Not 9th circle.....not quite 27th level,
yet. Don't have NEAR the time....only get to play an hour every other day,
and mostly on weekends.
