***Patch Day***

Though today's patch is primarily comprised of fixes to various bugs that
have been reported by the players, we're also pleased to announce a few
enhancements:

- Ranger spell "Jolt" now has a lesser casting time.
- Many new recipes for the "Make Poison" skill are now in game. Features
include: Several new poison books, stackable components, new suspensions,
some purchasable components, and players now have the ability to purchase
vials. Please check your vendors.
- Increased spell-drop percentages in three difficult Kunark zones where
drops were less than should be expected.
- Corrected an error in the drop rate for a couple cleric spells making them
unavailable.

*Quest Fixes*

- Fixed the "Minotaur Horns" Quest
- Fixed a misspelling in the guild-note for Erudite clerics worshipping
Cazic-Thule.
- Fixed a misspelled keyword in the Trueshot Longbow Quest.
- The guild note for gnome clerics now states the appropriate gender for the
guildmaster.
- Fixed the "illegible cantrip" Quest.
- Fixed the "Hunt for Meat" Quest.
- Removed Jinkus Felligan's doppelganger from Halas.
- Fixed the "Travis Twostring" quest.
- Fixed the "Algthin Dasmore" quest.
- Fixed the "Gather Components" quest.
- Fixed the "Lion Meat" quest.
- The Fleshy Orb quest and "Fabian" should really be fixed now. These were
not correct after the last patch due to a data export issue.

*Item Fixes*

- Fixed spelling of "Basilisk Egg"
- The Brass Ring is now worn on the finger, instead of the waist.
- Fixed the "Broken Minotaur Lord's Horn"
- Fixed race/class restrictions listed for the "Bullsmasher". Item listed
some inappropriate classes.
- Fixed race/class restrictions listed for "Patchwork Armor". Items listed
some inappropriate classes.
- Fixed the model for the "Cast Iron Rapier".
- Fixed Race/class restrictions for the "Crushbone Belt". Item listed some
inappropriate classes.
- Fixed the mundane "Electrum Peridot Bracelet" so that it would equip in
the proper slot.
- The "Bloody Mantle" may now be equipped.
- Fixed the effect on the "Canyoneer Pike". Current owners of this item will
need to trade it out with a GM in game.
- Fixed the "Howling Harpoon". Item was previously casting its spell upon
the wielder, rather than the target. The fix will be automatically applied
to existing items.
- Fixed the icon for the Degenerated Guk Weed.
- Fixed the icon for the Enshrouded Veil.
- The Splitpaw Hide Tunic will now look like "Leather" when equipped.
- "The Crusade of 1312AG" and "The Forbidden Tome" will now remain with the
character after logout.
- Fixed race/class restrictions listed for the "Mortificator Staff". Item
listed an inappropriate class.
- Fixed the icon for the Spectral Bow. In addition, removed "BRD" from the
class listing since Bards do not have the Archery Skill.
- Removed excess classes listed on the "Silk Lined Steel Helm".
- Fixed the effect on the "Theurgist Mace". Current owners of this item
will need to trade it out with a GM in game.

*Miscellaneous*

- Fixed bug that caused NPCs to say "cant open politethnks.txt"
- Fixed bug that caused NPCs to say "Can not open file NERDRGATT.txt"
- Fixed "cannot open file guards.txt" bug with Butcherblock dwarves
- Fixed "Cannot open item2monster.txt" problem with goblin whelps in
Butcherblock.
- Lizardman Mystics no longer think that the Feerrott belongs to the
Sabretooth Gnolls.
- Fixed a ghost in Field of Bone who was inappropriately labeled as living,
causing "undead only" spells to fail.
- Improved pathing in Sebilis.
- Improved pathing in West Freeport.
- Fixed the color of several spell-gems.
- Fixed recipe for a "Block of Clay" in the Basic Pottery book.
- Stone Skeletons in Lake Rathe can now be affected by "undead only" spells.
- Fixed several merchants who did not have wares to sell.
- Fixed several dozen spelling and grammar errors in NPC text and the spell
database.
- "Folded Sheet Metal" may now be crafted via blacksmithing.
- The "Unfired Urn", "Onyx Encrusted Urn", and "Small Bowl" may now be
crafted via Pottery.

This isn't a complaint, flame, or other odious venting, but rather a
mild fascination. I can't help but wonder how the items are coded,
such that some can be corrected with a patch while others must be
traded out with a GM.

There are a lot of little quirks in EQ that I can understand or reason
out from a programmatic point of view, but this one eludes me.

Maybe I'm happier not knowing.

I suspect they fixed Guard Jendil's pathing. It was really
screwy and you could get 2 6 second casts off before he'd hit
you from the right spot (or so I'm told).

Personally I hate people who exploit pathing bugs (like the
supplier/assassin room bug in LGuk).

It probably means the lazy ass guard kiters will actually have
to work for their kills now. The guards will actualy know their way
around their own city and take the shortest path to their
attacker instead of the longest. About time to.

Probably the nature of the change. One required direct change to the
item itself while the other was indirect. *shrug* Maybe?

the bayle list quest has been out since the game was released and hasn't been
solved to my knowledge.

there's a lot of broken quests. hell, they're JUST NOW fixing the fleshy orb
quest.

there's also a lot of bugs (lower level slows overwriting tugurs comes to mind)
that haven't been fixed as well. i would expect to see a *lot* more fixes with
the release of diablo 2, and the other upcoming games.

Good God, they've actually given a fairly detailed list of fixes.

I find the implications of this one amusing. It means that potters are so
rare that most Rogues had to learn Pottery to Skill 160 just to have an
accessible source of vials. Want to bet the cost of vials is so high that
it'll still be cheaper for a Rogue to learn Pottery to 160 than to buy
vials?

Hurray! No more belly-button rings. (I've had this ring since about Level
3. It took me a *long* time to figure out where it could be worn.)

Wonder if they'll ever do anything with Rusty Axes. Shamans can still equip

Be interesting to see what's correctly spelled now. So, anybody still have

The 'evil character' version of the Bayle list quest has a solution on Allakhazam's

There is speculation on a 'good character' quest, is this what you are refering to?

It's scimitars actually. But I knew what you were talking about.

On another note, the difference between the scimitars and axes for druids
and shaman is that the druids have a 1HS skill that can raise. The
shaman's will stay 0. Anyone know if the shaman wielding an axe was
intentional? Or a bug? (since a druids skill will rise, and a shaman
doesn't even have the 1HS skill)

It cost me around 30pp to get to where I could make vials. Pottery is not
that expensive to master.

It costs around 20pp, and a couple of hours [1], to become a master
potter. The only thing that was a hassle for making the vials was
getting all the skins together to make a decent sized batch.
They're eliminating a couple of the per-poison fail chances, and making
it a little more convenient. I guess we'll just have to pay for the
privilege.

The new poisons themselves include blind, statistic debuffs, attack
speed (both plus for player and minus for mobs), snare and pure damage,
and even varying levels of effectiveness. As such, a couple of them will
be handy for the Player versus Player crowd, and perhaps for big target
mobs.

The thing is, there are still no 'charges' per vial, and you can not
stack them once filled. To use a poison you are still going to have to
go and acquire the components, risk losing it all making the complete
vial, risk losing it all applying it to your blade, risk losing it all
by interrupting the poison attack by moving, and risk losing your sanity
when it is finally resisted. Even if you are successful, your poison
vial is still lost.

It is still too much effort for too little reward. Can you fizzlers
imagine what it would be like having to take the effort to research a
spell just for a chance at one cast of it? Yes, that's right. You'd go
apeshit.

Despite that I'm happy and almost impressed at the new number and range
of poisons, they are as impractical as ever. As before, you can only
poison your main slot, not your ranged slot or even other people's
weapons for them. It's still little more than an expensive hobby, a
money sink, if you will.

<bitterness>

Perhaps it's a clever ploy by Verant to suck all the money from the new
influx of twinked Rouges, dazzled by big back stabs, kewl black armour,
and assassination at the very end game. As they said, they were very
careful not to over balance Rogues with this poison patch. Good thing we
are still insanely powerful and useful, isn't it?

</bitterness>

:feels much better.

[1] I'll post how if you want.

On the plus side, you can become a master potter in an afternoon (I
did it accidentally while making poison vials for viscous mana).

Hmmm. I'll have to check. I just hope I don't have to trade it to a GM

That sounds cool....does this mean the crookstinger poison that has been

Actually, as a magician I can. Have you tried some magician (pet)
research?....nm....the difference is, we get to scribe the spell once
ultimately successful.

You might be able to interest someone in it, but everyone's looking into
it, myself included soon. Also, it looks like the new damage poisons do
less damage than the pre-patch ones, amazingly.
