Can anybody who plays a magician, enchanter or high level shaman on the
test server confirm this?
I play a shaman, which is really just a bad cleric (with nerfed DoT
spells) up until lvl 34 where we actually get buffs that make a
difference and a pet. Druids get teleport and better damage spells,
clerics get resurrect and better heal spells, and shamans get a pet and
buffs as good as a cleric's. The pet at best is 7 levels lower than
the shaman, and at worst 10 or 11 levels lower. There is no way a
shamans pet could replace a true tank in a group, so why are they
retuning it?
Would any of you ever kick a warrior out of your group, and just have a
magician or necromancer summon a pet to take his place? Usually when
i'm in a group, the people with pets are asked to kill them because
they take up EXP.
Here's my source of the rumors:

Myth, pure and simple. The only time a pet takes experience in a group is
when he makes the killing blow. In that case, the pet takes a share just
like he was a party member (i.e. not much-- the pet is usually the lowest
level in the party.)
In any case, most smart masters have "/pet back off" hotkeyed and use it to
aviod fluffy making the killing blow. If the fight is too hectic to
remember "back off", you're probably damn glad the pet is there.

Go on, post *any* proof to back up either assertion. Post *any* statement
by Verant that pets either do or do not take experience. There is none.
The killing blow thing may well (probably is) a load of crap, as for
experience in general, even if they *did* then their level is so low it
would be unnoticeable.

You SERIOUSLY need to relax.
Ever since you Brits lost the empire, you've been taking it out on the rest of
us. Go drink a warm beer, worship your Queen mum, cry over your dead
princess, or whatever you backward foreigners do and let us Americans enjoy OUR
internet. You're here as visitors-- Membership is a privilage, not a right.
And quit that wacky British spelling too! It's "color" not "colour" dammit!!
There, I feel better.
Seriously, relax. It's "common knowledge" that pets only take experience in
groups when they get the killing blow. That was changed since no groups would
WANT a pet otherwise. While I don't remember which Verant employee said it,
it's the gospel truth.

Ok, asshole. America managed to get rid of the English, unfortunately us
Scots have them as a bed partner. I wouldn't mind having a few thousand
miles of ocean between us but sadly that won't happen for few million years.
Obviously your reply was meant as a taunt, but understand a few things about
us Scots before casting us in the same mold as British (which to everyone
outside Britain means English).
A Scot, not a Brit

*Everquest: The Official Players Guide*, Page 113:
"If you're playing solo with a "pet", it takes a lesser share of Experience,
but in a party, the pet only takes experience if it makes the final killing
blow."
My experience supports this entirely. (level 28 Mage.) Now reread my post,
and go group with a Mage, cause hiring on a Mage is like hiring on 2 PC's for
the price of one (admittedly both are mediocre and one is real, real stupid--
hopefully not the one pitching burn.)
Now post me some proof that all Scots aren't a wee bit loony 8).

So absolutely nothing from Verant?
The players guide has already been shown to be a complete load of nonsense
that bears little resemblance to reality!

I'm a level 45 Shaman - I have a pet! From my experience I notice no
difference whether I or it get the killing blow nor whether it is still
alive or not at the end of a fight.
But thats anecdotal. The point I'm making is there is no proof either way.
Well i Have proof it doesn't matter.
A mag and I were killing fairys in LF when we were both 31. he
level'd to 32 and 3 kills later i level'd. So now we are both level
32 i i'm am constantly bringing in the pulls with very little down
time, he meds and pops them and i mellee them down, next thing you
know 5 hours later he levels, and about 3-5 kills later I level, so if
there is an exp penalty it is only by 2 kills, wow . Anyways this was
my best killing spree I and the Mage ever done.
should have stated this (didn't proof read)
>know 5 hours later he levels, the mage levels and about 3-5 kills later I level, so if
So no proof then.
Saturday I had my pet up most of the day in Sol B. Experience came faster
overall than it had the day before because of the reduced downtime in small
groups and reduced need to pull carefully in large groups.
