I want it to be piercing. :>
Don't ask me why, but I just don't like blunt weapons. BE and Screaming maces
bedamned, I just don't find them attractive, but I love piercing. Lovelovelove
it.
But before I commit this as-of-yet unmade shaman to a life piercing, I gotta
know... Just how many Shaman usable piercing weapons are there? I could've
sworn that the Dragoon Dirk was one, but I checked mine, and it's not after
all. What about Stiletto of the Bloodclaw? Rapiers? I'm pretty sure your
basic, generic dagger is, but it'd be a PITA for her to go get a combine dagger
from Lavastorm.
Thoughts? Weapon suggestions? Has anyone else gone this route with a Shaman?

Okay.

I've been maxing out piercing for awhile now. The *only* cheap weapon available
to train with is a bronze main gauche-- 3 damage 24 delay.
Our choices for piercing weapons are extremely limited... there's a bone spear
off a rare in lavastorm (shitty weapon, 6/29 magic), the gloomwater harpoon
(rare drop off estrella in kedge, very high lvl weapon, 9/31, magic, +4 str,
+25 hp), and the riptide spear (shitty weapon, 6/33 magic, sv cold+2, sv magic-
5, 5 charges of enduring breath). That's about it.
I'm actually training piercing in the hopes that eventually a kickass
piercing shaman-only weapon will be introduced, just to piss most people off.
But me, with my maxed skill, will use it with ease.
Piercing is not a viable skill to use in the longterm unless you've got a
gloomwater harpoon. MOST piercing weapons in the game are not shaman-usable and
the few that are generally suck compared to an EB mace, gatorsmash maul, or
tainted battleworn morningstar.
I'd be happy if we could use the runed bone fork, personally. I want something
besides a shitty thex mallet for my ranged slot!

Hmm. Ok, so what the heck is a shitty thex mallet? Do you throw it?
Does it go away or can you go get it and throw it again? I have never
used throwing weapons with my shaman.. because I thought it was like
arrows and you would use them up..

That *is* it. No other SHM piercers have been discovered.

Haha! That was exactly my reasoning.
I too await the day when a decent piercer is available - something that is
at least 12/33 like that cleric 1h blunt in their quest. That would be
effective in combat (unlike any other 1h Shaman weapon including the
blunts).
Shamans are really fucked over on weapons. Apart from the weapons in the
Planees, there was *nothing* better than an Observer Staff (useless) until
very recently except for the Ultra-rare Mortificator's Staff. At least now
we have the Gatorsmash (very nice for damage) and the Tainted Tier'dal
(superior to Mortificator) but the latter may not still be available.

Agreed. A Shaman needs their melée skills and that means 2h blunt or they
will be medding for long periods after fights.

Well you can have +2 SV Cold (Albeit it will cost you -5 SV Magic).
Do Thex Mallets still appear with that quest? I have to say that I have
*never* seen one offered for trade, ever.

I guess thats a holdover from my ranger, where I always kept every weapon skill
maxed... I'm using a bronze main gauche to max piercing and a shovel for 2HB. I
plan on getting a gatorsmash at some point, but for the moment I'm happy with
an EB mace and paw of opolla.

I just don't see the POINT of the mortificator staff, except to say that you
got it. I mean, 16/44 does *not* compare to 30/70, mana drain is absolutely
useless since it doesn't give YOU the mana drained, and while +7wis/+45 mana is
*nice*, if I wanted mana I'd be using my paw with a CGShield or ruined
morningstar. I just don't get why they made the staff so obscenely rare and
difficult to obtain when it's such a mediocre item.
But thats just me.

Yeah, that'll happen.

Sure, they still appear. It's +5 SV Magic in exchange for 8.5 weight... not a
great tradeoff, but there's not a hell of a lot that will go in the slot.
