Dunno bout the usual suspects but I for one stopped to consider if I'd
ever heard of this poster before. Realizing I had not I wondered just
why he thought we would care that he was leaving or what his
interpretation of the game we play was based on since it was so patently
absurd as to suggest that either he has never actually played EQ or
played it very badly if he did. After a brief chuckle I moved on,
feeling no need to ridicule the ridiculous.
Oh, btw, no one goes to Velks anymore, its too crowded.

As a matter of fact, he did. Look up "Yogi Berra" on the web...
Well I've heard the "DAoC R0x0rs" already but then I heard that about AO "AO
r0x EQ sux0rs2 (was prolly a dude in there)
"So why are you playing EQ?" Came the question all across EC
"Servers are down" and 150 people in a busy Bazaar then proceded to wipe
their drinks of their monitor screens.
My prediction.
AC will suffer (2 of the Directors here, one my immediate boss, play it and
have said the servers are very quiet now)
UO will take a pounding, many UO players would not play EQ because it was,
well EQ, the same as Quake World players hated Q2 but liked Q3 (because it
wasn't Q2) and Q2 players hated Q3 etc. This is a chance to jump across to a
up to date game that isn't EQ.
AO, lol, this will prolly disappear up it's own back orifice and now rival
Meridain 59 in the player stakes everyone I know that moved over to play has
either quit completely or just cancelled thier account.
EQ will suffer less and verant are prolly concerned but I think many players
will move back, from what I have seen I agree with Biz's statement, it's
like EQ (by design) but different.
I'll give it ago (meant to be on it's way from the US) and may or may not
move over, atm I am too into EQ to really give it a fair trial, so maybe
next month or so.

"Showin' your ignorance again, Morgan."
Every review of DAoC has been quite favorable. Posts on DAoC
beta-boards are clearly stacked in favor of DAoC being a FAR
superior game to EQ with only minimal problems (to be expected
in a beta-test) which would be fixed in short order. EQ isn't a bad
game except that it's a no-holds-barred, hack-n-slash level-quest
of a game with no real substance beyond level 20 (and, yes, I do
have characters beyond 20 on both of my cancelled accounts--
I have an L56 Erudite Wizard and a L52 Halfling Druid as well
as a collection of sub-40s characters that pretty much cover
the spectrum of characters that EQ offers). Let's face it, PvP
is a joke in EQ, even on the Zek servers, trade skills are a joke,
most quests are nothing more than NPC guided hack-n-slash,
fuck-it-didn't-drop, wait, hack-n-slash some more. Above all,
Verant takes this game and themselves WAAAAYY too
seriously. Well, I did have some fun in the past 3 years (I say
3 years because I was in the beta) and Verant got plenty of
my money--now it's time to trade up. See you all (well, not
all of you, just the smart ones) in DAoC.

Awww... Fabno is cheesed off that I insulted OS because his character
is ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED there and he always gets a group.
Glad you enjoy it so much, but if you step back and look at it,
it's the same old shit as Lower Guk and so on. Just as you are
the SAME old shit that you were at level 1. Sure you've got a
few more trick and a few more hit points... well, the frogs in OS
have a few more tricks (summoning, increased agro radius and
they hit FUCKING hard) and they have a LOT more hit point.
With your little pet, you could solo the frogs in the Qeynos sewers
and in Innothule and in the entrance of Upper Guk. After that,
you needed a crew. The reason for this is because, while you
got stronger, the NPCs got ALOT stronger. So much so that
fighting an "even" con mob at your level is an exercise that
requires multiple high-level crews. Really, though, if you
get down to brass-tacks, it's all the same and you could have
saved yourself a lot of time and effort if you'd simply quit at
level 20 when you could still solo even-con frogs. At least
then you'd feel like you were still pretty strong relative to
the mobs. It's kinda like those fire beetles (Klickniks and
Klacknaks) that you cut your teeth on. Is there much
difference between those and a Lava Duct Crawler in
Sol B? The LDCs have more hits, hit a LOT hard and
are generally a pain in the ass. You get slightly more loot
from an LDC than from a fire beetle. But... I thought the
point of gaining levels and going to new places was to
actually SEE SOMETHING NEW. Largers Kobolds and
fire beetles on steroids isn't exactly what I had in mind.
Undead Frogloks which are simply redressed Frogloks
which are crap that I fought in the Qeynos sewers at
level 6 hard qualifies either. If you're having fun,
however, then knock yourself out.
Yeah, I'm leaving EQ (actually I quit some time ago), however
I'm not through entertaining myself at your expense.

Uh, yeah. That's exactly what I said. Thank you for
clarifying. In the future, you needn't point out the
incredibly obvious; the merely obvious will suffice.
I shudder to think what grouping with you must have been like. Having
played most classes to just mid levels I've seen every character develop
and change strategies as levels increased. The chars I have advanced to
higher levels have seen this happen over and over again as new
challenges were met with new tactics. The skills and techniques
available and required to be effective definitely change between
fighting a lvl 2 fire beetle and taking on an OS ugly bastard beetle.
If you approached the high level game (if you actually played eq at all)
with the mentality you show in your posts I can only imagine the horror
and carnage that followed in your wake.

If you think DAoC is going to offer more "substance beyond hack-and-slash"
then I'm afraid you've got another think coming. It's going to be the same
old formula, with the names changed to protect the guilty.
What I think is funny is how people are willing to go pay $13 a month for an
EQ clone without any actual feedback about what the long-term gameplay is
going to be like. Sure, I guess it's something to kill time on, and hey,
maybe it WILL be great. Maybe.
When is someone going to actually make an MMO-ROLE-PG?

Fantasy games have gotten boring, especially MMORPGS. Come on its all based
off D&D, everything is theres hardly any other systems out there...I am sick
of everything being based off Greek myths and legends and stuff...Come on
seriously its in every freakin game and book in the world

Replace "downtime" with "travel time" and "tradeskill time", and you're
right on target. DAoC really kills EQ in terms of reducing downtime, but
they have other time sinks....
James
DAoC PvP thing was listed as something EQ doesn't have, consider this, maybe
not everyone wants PvP? *gasp* if they do play Sullon Zek, or any Zek...
The only new thing DAoC really has is its history and background for the
game...I guess.

It's better than EQ? Cool! How many quests, mob models, different
armour/object graphics, and cities does it have? How many things are there
to discover? Oh, now you want to compare DAoC to EQ when IT came out? Well,
here's news for you - compare DAoC to today's EQ, because that's the one you
buy in the store.
>Let's face it, PvP is a joke in EQ
As opposed to the joke that is PvE in DAoC. Guess which I prefer. 8/
>trade skills are a joke
Trade skills in DAoC are broken. There's no reason to NOT do them, and
in fact if you want the best gear you HAVE to do them. EQ has a community of
tradeskillers - I doubt DAoC will ever have that, since everything is so
cookie-cutter simple. And because trade skills produce the best items in
game, PvE is completely pointless - you do it to level, and get cash for
tradeskills.
I also have questions about whether the "enforced pause" when making
something will prove to be more downtime than if someone with proper pack
arrangement in EQ did a similar item, but having not tried the DAoC
tradeskill system personally I can't tell.
>most quests are nothing more than NPC guided hack-n-slash,
>fuck-it-didn't-drop, wait, hack-n-slash some more.
As opposed to what few quests being in game being delivery quests, or
even better, a-dozen-of-us-killed-it-so-it-had-a-dozen-heads quests.

My predictions for DAoC:
(1) They will deal with anyone messing with their vision of how things
should go even more harshly than EQ. This is the game that bans folks who
are dewds in public channels on their RP servers, remember, with Tweety as a
rep.
(2) When the "exploits" are found in DAoC, the nerfs will come as fast and
as furious as in any previous MMOG.
(3) If one realm owns the others in PvP badly enough, expect more nerfs a
plenty. Players will complain, and will be soundly rebuffed by a company
that sounds like it doesn't care.
In short: Mythic will be just like everyone else, no matter how many
times you say "but they REALLY care".
James
