Just stopped by the bank in Erudin tonight, and found a new NPC standing
outside the bank door....
His name is Sparlus Penfold, and he sells but one item...the latest edition
of the Odus Chronicle. Cost my Erudite Paladin 2sp, 8cp. It is No Rent.

Inside were some good summaries of what's been going on lately with the
Plaguebringers, the plague in the Karanas Plains, and rumors about the
latest actions of Innoruk's daughter.

Kudos to Verant for finding a way to provide info in-game on what's been
going on lately.

In North Freeport there's the same thing. Something about a renegade
Tier'Dal looking for a powerful artifact.

Hmm, and 'the Rivervale Voice' or something in Rivervale - I should have
bought one, assumed it was just some useless quest item.

*bonk* I just hailed the guy. I didn't even think to try and buy from him.
Guess I'll grab a copy to read on the boat to Qeynos.

BTW, Sparlus also announces the departure of the ship if you happen to be
standing around him at the time. Dunno if he announces arrivals as well.
Do the other news vendors announce "current events"?

Where all these NPC's selling newspapers near the bank. I also wonder if
each paper is a bit different depending on the region it represents. It
would be cool to see what the Tox and FP papers have to say about the same
subject.

Before I finally logged off last night, I stopped by the new merchant
outside the bank in South Qeynos. His newspaper, The Antonican Times, had
different info in it.... detailed the rise in food prices in Qeynos, and the
safe return of the Elven princess, Fironia Vie, to her father, the Elven
King.

This all seems to confirm earlier posts and websites that speculated about a
super-mega-event in the works and coming soon......

It's nice to see they put that much extra effort into this. This could
have been just a "here's what our GM events were" note, but they put a lot
of work into it.

I wouldn't say the papers are confirmation of a mega-event. Absor had
commented several times on the boards about player complaints that unless
you were PART of a GM event, you really had to work to find out what
happened. And given that some of these events are important parts of what
little evolving storyline EQ has, many players wanted a method of learning
IN GAME about it. Absor said they had something in the works to better
communicate the storyline and history to players. I'd say this was part of
that, and a very welcome part, too.

Agreed, it *is* a welcome addition, and one I've wanted to see for a while.
It is a minor yet significant little addition that breathes a touch of life
into the world, and that is *always* good. The idea that something might
have changed is always an inspiration to spend more time in the city than
one's usual "I must bolt in and bank before the beggars corner me" trip.

After speaking to all of a city's NPCs once, it becomes rather pointless to
ever do it again, unless you're questing. It would be nice for that to no
longer be the case.

Well, by themselves, not solid 'etched in stone' absolute confirmation....
but when piled with the other evidence and testimony of players throughout
the game, it looks mighty convincing.

When they make it so the info is not merely word of mouth from a few select
individuals, but in-game info now available to everyone that confirms what
the select individuals said....
Then I'd say that's a pretty good clue that speculations of a coming mega
event are accurate.

If the speculations of an impending mega-event are wrong, then Verant just
fueled the rumors by having them confirmed in Norrathian newspapers.....
