Hello, I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of a
couple of fun zones appropriate for my 64th (soon to be 65th)
beastlord and my husband's 65th bard. We may or may not have with us
our friend with his 65th enchanter, a 63rd druid from our guild, a
64th cleric guildie, or anyone else from our guild who's bored with
planes groups, so anywhere that absolutely requires a traditional
plate-wearing tank /healer /slower setup won't work. We're not
ele-flagged, although we have all expansions, if that helps any.

I'm not looking for lightning-fast experience or uber loot, just a
break from the usual. My husband and I currently spend quite a bit
of time in Nurga and a bit in Droga since we can mow through all of
Nurga and the easier parts of Droga with no real healer, and we do
LDoNs whenever we can snag enough people, but we'd love a change of
scenery. A good 75% of our guild practically lives in BoT, and they
love the xp, I'd just prefer to find somewhere we have to move
around and use our brains more frequently, and that can be done when
we don't have a healer, even if the xp is quite a bit slower.

So, any pointers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We'd
love to see some new places, and even promise to send a postcard =)

Grieg's End and The Deep can be fun zones to crawl around in. I
really like GE.

Pros:
====
Almost always empty.
Huge zone. Looks like indoors, but all outdoor buffs/spells work.
Nothing sees invis.
Nameds drop stuff that is either reasonably worthwhile selling in
bazaar or turning in for decent tribute points.
Rare luclin zone that mobs actually drop coin - and gems - and
words/runes that can be sold in bazaar too.
Mobs drop way faster than PoP tier 1 mobs, yet give almost as much AA.
My feeling is my kill rate is way better in GE than a tier 1 so I
think I solo AA a bit more efficiently here.

Misc:
-----
My beast solos here easily. A bard/beast or bard/beast/dru group
should tear it up handily AND have a good time.
I usually come in from the Dawnshroud side. The first room might look
daunting, but don't panic (have paragon ready though if you go there
to solo). Of course, with bard lulling you can single pull out of the
first room to the entry hall. 3 mobs there with chance of a 4th fro
the trap. As a beast, I usually get 2 at first and manage to aggro
the 3rd (and trap mob) almost every time. =\
Speaking of traps - most rooms have a carpet patch - avoid it when
pulling. The carpet spawns an extra mob (spawn time roughly twice as
long as the rest of the rooms).

Once you've tanked down the first room, pick a direction and work your
way through the interconnected rooms to the courtyard. Kill the
courtyard mobs and then decide your goals.

1) Go further in and wander for hours in a damned large zone =)
2) Take the route that leads back in the general direction of the DSP
zone in (glance at a map and you'll see that there's kind of a loop of
rooms there. Many call this the "front loop").

The front loop has a chance of 3 random named spawns. You do this
loop once or twice and you're definitely gonna see a named. They are
common. More hp than the others, but don't hit much harder. Oh -
and, while fighting a named, watch your party. you may see them
change shape... Makes for amusing screen shots. =)

There are some other interesting rooms and pull techniques to learn
about, but I won't give it all away here. You'll learn 'em quick
enough - and the zone is forgiving enough that as 65s you'll have some
leeway in what you can get away with.

I like to bring 50-something friends to GE. They tend to rave about
the exp and I've yet to meet anyone who didn't have fun there (except
me, the first time I tried solo at 58 and got pwned in the first
room!).

I rather found SolC to be fun, what little of it I saw. :) Especially
trying to get sub-10th level newbies through the lava so they could loot
that no-drop sword from Heili that kept rotting.

I got me some fiiine CH-chain experience doing just that, hehehe.

The ring Heili drops is nice too, 30fr and extended enhancement IV for
healer types. Friends 1st lvl bst got the 30/30 2hb off Tybog, the
named kobold that is random pop anywhere in Heili's area and the rooms
up to the first goo's from that side. Tybog also drops the firewalkers
shawl which sells for a few k generally.

I just love solc as a loot gathering zone. It's almost always empty.
There's a large number of random nameds that drop nice stuff. The named
FG drops a tradable 40ac plate bp with 12mr 12fr. The named goblin
drops rare no drop shoulders with 15dr and 15pr which my cleric still
wears. Monk friend upgraded from those to a drop from HoH trial.

There's a named demon guy that drops nice arms, hps, mana and 15stam
most notably. Sold my last pair for 10999pp :)

Guess SolC is tied with Sirens, DN, and Drunder as my fav zones :)

If you haven't been playing the game since Kunark or earlier, you
could try Old Seb. It's a farely traditional dungeon as far as EQ
goes, but it's off the beaten track for most people these days.

Yup, my fav. Zone and that group should be able to at least have a ball
there. The loot is no longer uber, but it and the experience are well worth
the effort. You haven't lived until you've camped everything in veksar at
least once :)

Cazic Thule is great. Can crawl to the top of the 4C pyramid, do the
ring of fear event, ring of slime, walk the gnome, crawl the sewers,
spawn the dragon. Should all be fairly trivial for a bard/bst combo, but
I have fun in there still. Just watch for huge pulls from nowhere ;)

Plane of Hate is fun if you can ignore the lag. SEoC MQs still sell very
well on Karana and the Marsinger quests have decent rewards too. I
really like the atmosphere there too :)

Hate's Fury is a neat crawl with fun little drops for twinks.

There's a triggered event in Nadox you guys could probably do, near the
Torgiran zoneline.

<Channeling the spirit of Briarly> Get your Mark of Justice! (Complete
all 6 PoJ trials, gives access to 7th Hammer.)

You could work on Key of Veeshan (the old quest is a bigger timesink, but
more fun I think) and try to get some rotting blood from the dragon in
Skyfire. Some nice quests in there with great rewards for the effort,
and they take you to all sorts of out-of-the-way zones (a few of these
are my latest project, along with raising faction in mistmoore).

With a group you could probably do Halls of Testing in Temple of Veeshan
and Kael arena to get your CoV faction up. Some of the HoT quests have
very nice rewards even by today's standards.

Howling Stones could be fun. Never been myself but guildies love it.

Those are things I've found enjoyable (with the exception of HS, as I
haven't been there) that you might as well.

Ring of Fear might be a bit ugly to attempt for one group of casuals.
Lotsa mobs spawn it it and there's a bit of a timer before more mobs
spawn. Would be pretty easy to get overrun.

Getting the stuff to spawn the dragon is umm tedious. :)

Yeah, HF is a cool zone. Make sure the first time you go up on the
Upper decks to take a look at the ocean. Veng face mask and Arms drop
there, and a monk/bst glowyfist thing too.

*grin* Doing all the 6 PoJ trials is fun. The only one that is really a
bit pissy is Flame, but that one is really easy to force a fail and get out
of. No way in Hell would they be able to take on Hammer with 1 group.
Even Meemers thinks that isn't feasible.

Inspired by your writeup, I went to GE last night and wandered around.
According to Allakhazam's there's supposed to be a few mobs that are
Dire Charmable, but I never saw them (I was looking for Coalesced
Sending in particular.) Were these mobs erased by the revamp?

I've never seen one coming in from the DSP side (which is where I go
99% of the time), but I have a dim memory of seeing one on the other
end of the zone (coming in from uh... SD?). But you know, that was a
long time ago. I wonder if they're still there post revamp. Good

Thanks so much for all the suggestions, it looks like Grieg's End
is going to be our next field trip. I really appreciate all the
information and pointers everyone has given. Lately we've been doing
a /random 1000 and the winner gets to pick the destination for the
group/duo/trio that night, so I'm hoping my dice are kind in the
near future. Between GE and all the other places that were

I'm not sure anyone mentioned a few things. The zone is like a maze.
The first several rooms and corridors on the DSP side are filled with
the lower level mobs, but if you have a 55+ or so group, you can invis
past them til you get to the area where the named will spawn. This is
really the part of the zone we spent most of our time. You will get
there when you no longer see those ugly, floating, legless things all
over the place, past a little gate. If you have a tracker, search for
Servitor of Luclin. He spawns near this area. He can also be a fun
target for a high level group or a couple lower level groups with a
couple mildly nice drops. The named in there can spawn as any luclin
model for some reason. Sometimes they will be coterie, sometimes
underbulks, etc...And they proc or cast skeleton illusions on the
tank...kinda fun. The keys they drop get you in to see Servitor and
Grieg.

Oh and Im too lazy to look up his name, but stay the hell away from
the mob that drops the weapon that procs divine aura. He is
unsnarable, so difficult to kite, and seems to be invincible most of
the time. (And if I recall, continues to attack while invincible).
Maybe a Wizard can mana burn him or something...I have no idea how you
are supposed to kill him, and we stopped trying after the first two
wipes.

Hmm I haven't been there since the revamp, but it used to be that
almost all trashmobs procced illusions. Was great fun having a group
of "mobs" fighting .. the other mobs. Models in GE used to be taken
randomly from the modelset for luclin. ie you could basically get any
luclin mob model in that single zone .
That alone made a trip to GE worthwhile. The beer goggles was another
but that was nerfed with the revamp I think. Still glad I got mine in
the few times we were there.

He has (90% of the time) a Divine Aura proccing hammer as weapon. And
yes as a npc he can still attack while DAed. As long as he's not
hitting (and thus proccing) you can damage him. Normally we use a
kiter and loads of ranged damage to take him down. Wizzie with a flux
staff is great as kiter.

His drops are very very good for the effort IIRC (some clicky effect
item). We farmed this one for just about every cleric in the guild.

You know that's what we assumed. However we had a few Rangers
shooting at him while we kited him unsnared and it seemed that no
matter what, we couldn't do damage. We ended up using gate potions
and sacrificing a (weaponshield to give us time to get out) Ranger the
first time we tried. Also, we tried and tried but we could never
snare the bastard, since he seemed to *always* be DAed. Perhaps he
was bugged or perhaps we were just confused...

I don't think the mob was bugged but it has an insane regen rate. If I
remember correctly our shaman and necro added their dot damage together
and concluded something about 1000 HP/tick regen. So you have to do more
damage than 1000/tick. It is a fun fight once you have your strategy
down. Just keep the adds controlled and wear him down.
And never ever melee him when he has the hammer equipped. :D

If you are talking about THAT mob in GE, his DA lasts something like 15
minutes. While kiting him DA'd you can shoot him with arrows and get crit
damage messages but he wont really take any damage. The important thing is
that everyone has to stay awake and not let him get close enough to
hit/proc. Once the fight starts, no one should be memming new spells. As
to the other mobs, we cleared the adds first. He doesnt assist.

I reckon it may be possible, need a few shamans / druids / necros etc, using
lower level dots up to the higher ones, would have to keep them on him at
all times though.

A shaman would likely end up as the kiter though ;)

Nope, druid. Snare a lot, and DoTs too, higher agro than a few DoTs from
a shaman. Trust me on this, having done the fight a few times with as
many DoTs piled on him as I could.
