Would it be worthwhile to return to EQ?

I stopped playing Everquest back in 2007 due to the lack of players on
the AB server, however I have been thinking of taking the leap and
coming back to a game that I used to always enjoy. Here is my problem,
is there a good enough reason to come back (besides just enjoying the
game)?

There are/were some problems with Everquest (which is why I left):

1. Way too many servers - too few people to group with.

2. Pay per expansion costs (having to pay $50 or more anytime an
expansion rolls out, just doesn't fly with me). Been playing EVE
Online since 2007 never having to pay once for an expansion. ** Now I
have not played in a while and this methodology may have changed.

3. Not enough simplified gaming content for people that have to go at
the game solo (especially because of lack of players). Last I checked
I was L80 Paladin and there was not enough quests/general content that
I could solo effectively, but then again since my departure this may
have been addressed already.

These reasons being given - is there any reason why I should go back
to EQ at all?

Did you miss the server merge ?

$40 per expansion, and it covers all previous expansions. One
expansion per year. Next one in Dec-Jan.

Mercs. Either healer or tank merc. Low level, no cost. they level
automatically as your character levels. Needs newest expansion, from
last November. Soloing is much easier.

Sure, its fun.

Thanks for the reply Jim, and thank you for all of the information -
and no I was not aware of a server merge as of yet, so I think I may
go back and check some things out as to how the dynamics of getting
into a group, and see what the actual differences are from the gaming
perspective. I just wanted to check the user perspective before making
the final leap into the game once more. A yearly expansion is not that
bad actually - when I left they were at two per year. So - once again
thanks for the info and I will have a look at Allah for more details.
My in-game name is Edyil so for Pete's sake if you see me in game -
invite me to a group :).

Thanks,
EG

You might want to check the new buff jewelry:

It does have a few problems, but its good info mostly.

Well I have to tell you I did re-install Everquest (after a Hefty
download and update) and re-activated my account.

- Liked the mercenaries, makes soloing certain tasks that much easier
(are we able to use multiple mercs? Have not seen an FAQ on this).
- Logged into AB and it seemed traffic was a little slower than what
it used to be for a Sunday but not too bad either (and not nearly as
slow as I remembered).
- I logged into the 51/50 server and this seems far more active, may
be better way to start that Necro I wanted :).
- Unbelievably some of my old friends on AB started tagging me right
away (thought they would all be gone by now), and sill saw most of the
old groups still being fairly active.

All in all a good experience so I think for now, I will continue to
play EQ (even if more limitedly so - currently looking to join a
Family Friendly Guild on AB) and maybe I can progress my character a
bit further :).

One per character. So if you have 2 accounts, you could 4 box. Even do
the Ldon instances while still requires 3 characters.

No moves off and no moves onto Myong.
