Combine two Spider Silks (not Spiderling Silk) in a sewing kit to
make a Silk Swatch. This is an easy task, trivial when I tried
it with a skill of 26.
Combine a Silk Swatch with a tailoring pattern in a sewing kit to
make a piece of Raw Silk armor. The tunic and legs need two Silk
Swatches. The resulting armor can be warn by casters and monks
(MNK WIZ MAG NEC ENC).

do you do it in the large or small sewing kit?
I tried a swatch and a pattern in a large kit, and it said they
wouldn't combine and failed..
do the different pieces need different amounts of silk swatch? I
tried a cap, figured it would only need one <shrugs>
