Just a quick question....when you unzip a 3dfx driver set such as
rkv2dx6.exe, where should you extract the files to?
I have been extracting the following folders to a temporary directory...

3dfxV2.DRV - DirectDraw Driver
3dfx16V2.DLL - DirectDraw 16 Bit DLL
3dfx32V2.DLL - DirectDraw 32 Bit DLL
3dfxV2PS.DLL - Control Panel Applet
3dfxV2PS.HLP - Control Panel Help File
VOODOO2.BMP - Voodoo2 Desktop Wallpaper
FXMEMMAP.VXD - Voodoo VXD for Mapping Memory
RICHED20.DLL - Microsoft Redistributable File *
CSH.DLL - Control Panel Help Control File *
MSVCRT.DLL - Microsoft Redistributable File
GLIDE2X.DLL - Win95/98 Glide for Voodoo2 (Supports Glide 2.31+)
FXOEM2X.DLL - Win95/98 Glide OEM Extension DLL
GLIDE2X.OVL - DOS Glide for Voodoo2 (Supports Glide 2.31+)
GLIDE3X.DLL - Win95/98 Glide3 for Voodoo2
VOODOO2.INF - INF File for installing Drivers
V2-AUTO.INF - INF File used to add backwards compatability
LICENSE.TXT - 3dfx License Agreement
MANIFEST.TXT - Listing and size of files
README.TXT - This File

....but they seem to prefer being in the Windows/System folder. The reason I
ask is because I have been getting really poor performance from the game
with my 3dfx graphics card so I feel the above files are in the wrong place.
Where are they placed on your computer? And do you have the same problems as
me (slow scrolling, rotation of dungeon map, etc.?)
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Please e-mail me at the address below.
Thank you for reading.

Neil,

In general with 3dfx drivers you download to a temp folder.
Then you go into Control Panel and System.
Under Multimedia, you find your drivers for 3dfx and click the
update driver button.
Navigate through the dialogs to load a new driver from disk,
and select the temp folder of where your new driver files are.
It will place them all in the appropriate places this way.

I believe the problem you have experienced may not be your driver,
but try that first. If the new driver doesn't help your performance, you
may need to make a change to your registry to have DK2 re-locate
the direct3d device for you. What worked for me (with Voodoo3) was:

Run Regedit
Click on Edit | Find and type in the following:
GUID Index Verified Working
When it finds this key under the dungeon keeper 2 section,
it will probably be set to a 1. Double click on it and
in the edit dialog, change it to a 0. Then close regedit.

This seems to cause DK2 to re-locate your D3D Driver the next time you run
it, and this worked to get my hardware acceleration working.

Good luck!

Jim Rowley
