Dungeon Keeper 1 on Vista

Just thought I'd throw this out into the void. Yes, this game seems have
been forgotten by all except the obsessees, and nobody posts here anymore,
but if anyone ever happens to stroll in here having a working DK on Vista,
I would be very grateful if they could divulge what they did to get it
working.

You'll find a few solutions on the web with people claiming miracles cures:
disabling Data Execution Prevention, running in Compatibility Mode, and so
on, but they have amounted to nothing for me.
I imagine it could be a graphics card/monitor thing.
I am specifically trying to get the Direct3D Keeper working, I can play the
other one in DOSBox but it's not very much fun.
At some point I'll get round to buying a Win95 machine or something, but
until then...
