The first Dungeon Keeper 2 Web Update will resolve the issue, along with
other issues raised on this newsgroup and the various DK2 websites. (It
will also contain a whole host of goodies and Nice Stuff, so keep your eyes
peeled - it's coming soon...)
In the meantime, however, we want to help out as many people as possible who
many be experiencing difficulties with the game. To that end, we have a
solution (please read the Disclaimer first, though):
- Run RegEdit ( Select 'Run...' from the Start menu, type "RegEdit" and
press Return )
- Open the Dungeon Keeper 2 Registry entry:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Bullfrog Productions Ltd\Dungeon Keeper II"
- Open the 'Configuration' sub-entry
- Open the 'Video' sub-entry
- In the right-hand pane, right-click on the 'Engine Id' entry, and select
'Modify'
- If you are experiencing difficulties, the number should currently be 4 -
change it to 2
- Next, you will now need to modify your DK2 shortcut:
- If you have a shortcut on your Desktop, right-click on it, and select
Properties;
- Otherwise, If you have DK2 in your Start menu, run Windows Explorer
Start Menu - 'Programs...' - 'Windows Explorer' ), and select the following
directory (assuming DK2 is installed in the default location):
"C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Bullfrog\Dungeon Keeper 2"
Right-click the "Dungeon Keeper 2" shortcut icon, and select Properties;
- In the Properties screen, open the Shortcut tab, and select the "Target:"
field
- At the end of the Target line of text, add the following text (without
quotes - note the space before the minus sign):
" -ddd 1"
Now the next time you run Dungeon Keeper 2, you should find that everything
works fine.
We hope this solves any problems you may be experiencing - we will continue
to monitor this newsgroup and the DK2 websites for other issues, so keep the
info coming !
Thanks for buying DK2 - enjoy it !
Your friendly Dungeon Keeper 2 programmer,
Alex D.

The MMX is solely utilised by the Software Engine.
So in answer to Jester's question, yes it will let you select Hardware
Acceleration on your P166 with CL Banshee.
Hope that helps,
Alex D.

Perhaps the problem is software related, you aren't running any
daft "taskbar" utilities like ICQ, mail watchers etc.
Programs such as those have given me problems in the past.
[For most of the development my main target PC was a K6-2 350
and 1x Voodoo 2. Have you tried removing one of the voodoo's
to see if that makes a difference?]

I am not ruling out, that it could be a bug and we are looking at Voodoo
2 SLIs in the studio at the moment, they do however seem to be running
well. We will keep you posted
