Stuck at end of Skybird Trill (final level)

Frustration!!
I've got to the end of Skybird Trill...all enemy creatures are defeated
(yes including ALL those vampires!), along with their dungeon
heart....I've beaten the mass of heroes that invade when the Avatar is
resurrected. However I am left stuck because the level won't end - what
do I have to do to trigger the end of the level? There don't seem to be
any more creatures to kill and I cannot get my imps across the
water/lava to reclaim the enemy land.
Any suggestions or has the level cocked up somehow? All help very much
appreciated!

Dig around all the outside walls. There are a few heros in a pocket that
you haven't killed. Try the top end of your Dungeon near the large gold
deposit, and a bit to the right.

Are you sure there aren't any more heroes hanging out in some of the rooms
to the east? The last one to go, in my experience, is a Fairy that shows up
in one of those easterly entrances.

right of your heart, next to the water is a hero-gate (two I think), the left one
(just next to the water) the heroes come out left of the gate, it is possible you
have wall here, so they can not come out - remove this wall to end level...
have fun!

imp around to the east of the gems where there are some pre-dug
tunnels....and a hero gate!! I'd assumed that any heroes would
instinctively seek me out - but NO! A few hearty thrusts and fireballs
later, the gravelly voice triumphantly announces "You have conquered this
realm". Cue one highly amusing cut scene at the end!
Now to install Deeper Dungeons.....

Did you kill the Lord of the Land? I don't mean the Avatar. There's a
Lord, i.e. a knight, as well.
I've never managed to defeat the enemy keeper in that level. Any force
I send across the lava gets Disease cast on it, and eventually the enemy
starts teleporting creatures into my dungeon. On the other hand, I beat
the heroes quite comprehensively. The level ended when I had done so.
By the time I quit the level, I had two Avatars on my side; I had captured
and converted the imprisoned one, then the heroes "resurrected" him,
creating another, who suffered the same fate.

As I remember well the game end after that level so is it only self
satisfaction or is there a good reason to do so ??
