I can't believe anyone out there could have completed this level first time.
My admiration if you did pull it off. DK2 is a great game but I'm thinking
of giving it away as I'm almost too frustrated. All up I would have spent
close to 50 hours playing this one level and it's getting boring.
Any help would be much appreciated
Cheers

You have managed to solve half of the puzzle by discovering how to weaken
Asmodeus. The rest of the trick now focuses on Lord Ronin.
Step one: Set the stage for the attack on Asmodeus, but do not take him out or
distract him too severely. Think of setting up for D Day. Remember we can save
him for later.
Step two: Start looking for the back door to Lord Ronin. Remember he has most of
his troops and defenses committed to attacking Asmodeus. Set up your killing
ground, an area were you can stage your troops but only face a limited number of
his at one time. And let the bleeding of his strength begin.
Step three: To further weaken Ronin's reserves sell off captured rooms. He will
have to rebuild / replace and may lose some of his overall strength.
Should Asmodeus decide to send out his troops, so much the better. Using the
hand of evil, (after making sure your back is also protected), launch the
invasion you had planned in step one.
Unless the level ends & resets should Ronin take the gem from Asmodeus (I
wouldn't know he never lasted that long against me), you should have the option
of then taking it from him,
Hang in there! You have all the puzzle pieces, the order just needs a little
work. First set your attack routes, then cripple/take out Ronin, and then
Asmodeus.
Good Hunting.

Well, I did it in one and a half tries. :) I had saved the level at one
point, and then when I was defeated, I went back to the save game, and
defeated it easily. This is really one of the hardest levels in the game,
it's up there with the last two or three levels.
Concentrate on Asmodius and the portal gem, just as the mentor tells you,
when he reminds you to keep your eyes on the prize. Do *not* confront the
goodies, except for those that are to the sides of your heart. Do be
careful when digging towards the central area, make a winding path, with a
few doors. (I didn't use any traps, just strong doors.) Then, after you
have claimed a spot near the water, grab several imps, build a bridge up the
left side, up to the goodie's bridge. Then drop an imp on the goodie's
bridge. Most likely, that one will run away when the goodies come after it.
After the goodies resume their partrol, drop another imp. Each imp should
jump at least once or twice before running. Eventually, the bridge will be
yours. Quickly continue building your bridge up the left. From there you
should be home free. Drop imps on Asmodius' area, then drop a lot of your
creatures (I used every single one I had), set up the call to arms flag, and
wait until the bell tolls. Then quickly break down Asmodius' back door, and
pluck the gem out of his cold dead hands.
Now my next problem though. I have made it up to the level 'Conversion' -
Cherish where I have to ultimately defeat Keeper Malleus and his Vampires.
I also have to capture and convert the Monks of St. Cuthbert and use them to
kill Malleus' undead hordes. However I tried and then all his vampires came
after me and killed me very very quickly.
How does one stop Vampires. I believe the monks can help but do I need a
lot of them?

Hurrah!!! You've made it.
Cherish is the level that originally gave me fits. I needed about 5 tries to get
through it. Once my computer crashed due to the huge force that can to blow me
to smithereens.
You do need those monks. Capture and convert as many as you can, because if you
do not they WILL come back to haunt you as vampires.
You will get a very heavy raid on your dungeon heart through out this mission.
The other keeper will not just sit back and let you build. Worse the heroes
correctly think you are the bigger threat and will constantly send raiding
parties as well.
Start by building an overly strong defense for your dungeon heart. On my right
side where I was constantly getting hit, I at one point had a room filled with
just freeze traps (if I recall correctly introduced this level), spike traps,
and sentry traps. Use a Fear trap in other areas to keep out low level riff
raff. Sentry posts are a must to increase your vision.
Helpful hint, there are some gem seams in this level, but they are near your
enemy. Also if you capture them, sell off his graveyards ASAP. No graveyard, no
vampire. In addition, Monks kill vampires, dead -- no deposit no return. Let
them help with the defense of your dungeon heart, they are invaluable. And if
you can make a vampire or two of your own and turn them lose on your opponent.
Good luck and one final hint, this level rewards a strong defense and
conservative offense.
Keeper Krolak
I'll give you a hint: his vampires are very busy trying to get to your heart
because there is a call to arms flag there.
Of course he placed a call to arms flag there. That's why I also planted a
killing field of sentry traps freeze traps and spike traps for them to walk
through on their way. I did occasionally have to replace traps, but no one made
in through alive, or undead. The nice thing about monsters is once they decide
on a path, they will keep using it. The mana drain was a royal pain, but while
the automatic defenses were destroying his forces, I was playing havoc over in
his territory with my strike force.
And once he lost those graveyards of his, the monsters stopped visiting.
Remember, I have already taken out good King Reginald a time or two.

Please accept a public apology, that last message was far shriller than I
intended, and I belatedly realized it was not directed at me, but rather
intended for the benefit of Tim and other novice players.
Demonstrates the drawbacks of posting at far to early in the morning local time.
