What's everyone's favorite ep/lev? I think pretty much people commented
earlier that ep. two was their fav. (mine too) but in terms of individual
levels, I think episode 3 levels 4 & 5 left the greatest impression on
my mind -- the graphics on these levels were intense... they also
featured my two personal favorites from the music score.. :) These
levels really conveyed the whole mood/atmosphere the best, to me.

opinions?

I really liked Episode 1, Level 3 - particulary at the very beginning.
This is where (I think?) you first see the pink demons and the invisble
demons...they way they just KEEP COMING really blew me away the first
few times I did the level. And that invisible guy really scared the
piss out of me the first time I saw him coming....gyaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

I really liked the secret level for episode 3. I found it kind of clever
how it starts out looking like level 1, then things take a nasty turn. I
also liked that it was quite a bit easier to kill the rocket-launching boss
from episode 2 when you've got an invisibility orb and invunerability orb.

I've the privelege of having 4 PC's hooked up in my living room due
to work, and DeathMatch mode I have to say is THE BEST...

IMHO, the original levels (set 1) is the best for DeathMatch mode, especially
when everybody starts knowing their way around the levels. In our little
group, the average frags average ranges from 2-12 frags/ level (depending
on personal skill level), but my buddy holds that record at 26 (somehow...)

What are ppls, comments, recommendations, etc, on the DeathMatch( ie:
networked) mode? I'm sure more people share my opinion that this is probably
the best way to play DOOM.

Oh, yes, and everybody wears earphones, so as not to hear anybody
elses' chainsaw until its too late. Does DOOM have 3D sound?

Horse hockey!

Of course I have a certain fond feeling for the stair-well-activated secret
doors in level 3; that "Hey, what was that sound?" that led to the Search
that led to the "Aaaah! Tricky bastards!"

But the true winner is level 7. Such majestic fire ranges! Sneaking up to
each window to blast away at the startled beasts viewing from another window.
Being surprised at each turn: "Where the HELL did that shot come from?!?"
The secret rooms disgorging monsters behind you so that you don't get that
comfy sanitized feeling about places you've been. Goodie-laden locations
in plain view, but inaccessible until that "Aaaah! Very tricky bastards!"

In short, I loved every minute of it! Those nice Id chappies (actually
their Australian distributors) will shortly be in possession of my cash in
return for the 3 Episode version. Better than spending money on food.
Mortgage your relatives if you have to, but be sure you buy DOOM.

By the way, even the best game music gets to me pretty soon. I always
have to turn it off quickly before permanent brain damage occurs. Sort of
like top-40 chart-buster commercial crap music ...

We found a solution to the music problem (i.e.: while nice, it does tend to get
repetetive after hours of play). Do this: Turn the Doom sounds on, but the
music off. Turn off all the lights in the room except the one over the keyboard
so you can see what you're doing. Pop Black Aria (Miracle Mile soundtrack also
works well) into your CD player. Scare the SHIT out of yourself... Works
nicely. Candlelight is also a nice touch...

If you mean SurroundSound (TM) yeah, but the only sound card that has
SS capabilities is the Gravis UltraSound. And you can't use SS with
headphones. :)

I have yet to play DOOM on a network...still waiting for modem
compatibility.

Hoo-hah! You are so right, Adam! I'm playing Doom on a 386
w/4megs and no sound card. Of course I have to Lshift boot to play and
run the game on low-rez...my hardware also can't keep up in Ultra-Violence...
but who cares! It's still a pile o' fun!
Personally I like to slide industrial tunes into my Discman
(Throbbing Gristle's Second Annual Report, anything by White House or
Souls In Darkness) while I play.
Maybe all of us here could develop a DoomScore Jukebox of sorts.
I'd like to know what-all other folks who don't have sound, or turn the
score off, listen to when they're playing...
