The Heretic Hack Editor v1.0 has been released! It brings the fun exe
editing capabilities of DeHackEd to Heretic, for some fun new patches. There
are several major improvements (over DeHackEd v2.2), so take a look! On
a related note, DeHackEd v2.3 will probably be out in one to two weeks.

You can find HHE v1.0 for FTP at:

ftp.cdrom.com /pub/idgames/utils/exe_edit/hhe10.zip

Here's the (short) text description file:

HHE v1.0
By Greg Lewis (Tree)

HHE, the Heretic Hack Editor, is capable of heavily restructuring the
way Heretic works. It is based on the popular program DeHackEd (v2.2)
for Doom, and has almost the same editing abilities, with a few enhance-
ments. Peruse the various data tables in the Heretic exe file, and modify
them at will. Ever kill a Gargoyle and suddenly see it turn into a Lich?
Ever see an evil floating Maulotaur with a hundred thousand hitpoints?
Such things are possible, and are limited only by your imagination!

Two patch files have been included, SUPRWEP1.HHE, written by Tomasz
Kozera, and SAMPLE.HHE. The SUPRWEP1 patch is the Heretic version of the
ever-popular arsenal booster patches provided for DeHackEd. The SAMPLE
patch is a show-by-example guide to the new text format for patch files.

There was a stir about exe editing programs such as this one several
months ago. If you plan on creating any large masterpieces that use HHE
patches which you wish to distribute, keep in mind that iD's legal depart-
ment considers such patches illegal, because of their software license and
copyright. I've decided that HHE will be released as normal, and iD has
at a very unofficial level decided to allow patch distribution, however I
deemed it wise to give a word of warning.

Version 1.0:
The first thing! (Well, not really, since this is a DeHackEd
spin-off...)
SB sound playing now actually works REPEATEDLY
New text-only patch file format
Default extension of ".hhe" added to patch files.
New Code Pointer editing section
Many sundry small improvements
