Hi Folks.

I am looking to buy a joystick to use with games like Doom, Heretic, Descent
(specially descent). Any suggestions?

I have an SB16 with Roland SCD 15 Sound Canvas DB. Are there any joysticks that
DO NOT ground the MIDI pins of the SB16 joystick/MIDI port? If so, I can avoid
having to buy a MIDI adapter cable from Creative Labs or a separate game port.
In any case, what are some of the good joysticks out there?

Thanks in Advance.
Aloke.

I've had the CH Flightstick for 4 years. And when I bought my
WaveBlaster it worked just fine. I think for a for good quality joystick
you can't beat the CH Flightstick. But you will miss out on the best
joystick, the Logitech Wingman Extreme, just because you don't feel like
paying a meesly $25 for a Midi Adapter, or $15 on a Y-joystick adapter. If
I were you, I would definitely get one of those cables and the Wingman
Extreme. If not, you will miss out on one of the best joysticks out there,
Also, the Gravis GamePad is another that is great, but you won't be able
to use it either.

You know, I have a SB16+SCD-15 setup and I've had to use a Y-splitter for
the Gravis Gamepad, but NOT for the Wingman Extreme. It's interesting to
hear you supposedly have it the other way around.

You misunderstood me. Neither the Wingman Extreme or Gravis GamePad
will work on my SB16+WB setup. I don't know how yours is working, but
when I try to play a MIDI file with either the Wingman Extreme or
Gravis GamePad connected, no music comes out, but once I disconnect them
music comes out. So, I keep my MIDI adapter(which came with the WB)
connected at all times.

Hmm...that's really funny. I was worried when I bought the Wingman
Extreme that it would konk out the MIDI like the Gamepads did (A
y-splitter direct from creative fixed this problem), but it didn't and it
works great.

Well, for Doom and Heretic I use a $20 gravis gamepad, as joysticks just
suck with them. With Descent, I use a Flightstick pro. If you want a
joystick specifically for descent, get a flightsick, but doom and heretic
suck with joystick type controllers.

No problems with that, but CL will only guarantee that their Y-cable
will work.

Only problems would be if you connected a joystick that used the pins
#12 and #15 straight to the SB16 joystick port.

I'm thinking about getting an SB16. I have worries though about getting a

MIDI cable adapter as well. From what I understand, the cable will give me
MIDI IN/OUT, and a joystick port as well. Will it work if I then get a
joystick splitter and put two joysticks into that port?

I have worries about the MIDI not working during a joystick-controlled game,

or other such dropouts of MIDI/joystick/sound. Thanks about any info.on this
matter.

My brother has a SB16 in his Gateway 486, just plugged a Gravis gamepad
into the joystick port and had no problems at all with Doom ][. Don't
know about running two joysticks though.

Your brother has no problem because he does not have a midi daughterboard
on his SB16.
