No doubt, they'll feel that much better when they decide to f**k the

That's right. The USA _is_ a backwater in terms of confronting social
issues, isn't it. `Racism and entrenched underclasses?' `Lets ignore it
all until the _next_ LA Riots come along.'

What do you think the Spiderdemon is, shit-for-brains? No body at all,
in a motorised vehicle! For Id to discount the possibility of women
purchasing Heretic is amazingly absurd, given the number of women who
play Doom in my neck of the woods. The belief that women don't use
computers, nor use them for playing games, has become more and more
plainly false since computers started becoming common in workplaces and
the home way back in the late 80s.
The fact that you're a mysogynistic cretin doesn't change demographics.
: Give me a frigging break. And, while you're about it, get a life.
Sounds like you're the one in need of a life, pal. And you can't even
blame DOOM for it.. <sigh>.

When a games company suggests that only `real _men_' should be playing their
games, surely this suggests that women are not equal with men in Id's eyes?
Paranoia? In this case, methinks that the critics could be right, neh?

Hello?
HelloooOOoOOoooo????
Steve
: Your lack of a proactive stance labels you the idiot that you prove to be

And your use of the word "proactive" demonstrates that you're nothing more
than a petty demogogue who is unable to distinguish between rhetoric and
reason.
: : Frankly, there are too many "-isms" these days and too many "sensitive"
: : people bitching about imaginary slights.
: Ah, count one up for the White Anglo-Saxon Protestant Male.
I *do* love these slams when they come from such sensitive people! How
on earth would you know I'm white, let alone Protestant, just from my
name? Bit of a racist/culturalist presumption, wouldn't you say?
: : I suppose the authors of DOOM
: : are also insensitive to the rights of the disabled because none of the
: : monsters is wheelchair bound.
: What do you think the Spiderdemon is, shit-for-brains?
It's hard to counter such crystalline logic. Did you need the whole
weekend to come up with that piercing rejoinder? But, I'll concede the
point-- you obviously truly believe DOOM shows all disabled people to be
evil Spiderdemons. How could such a sensitive and caring person ever play
such an owful game?
: No body at all,

Again, other sweeping over-generalization-- a characteristic of the
emotionally-crippled and narrow mind. To my way of thinking, id's "be a
man" statement in no way implies that id is denying that women use
computers; the statement simply summarizes a marketing approach. But I
guess us "American types" are overly concerned with individual rights.
: The fact that you're a mysogynistic cretin doesn't change demographics.
What demographics are you talking about? Quote a few stats, pal, and maybe
someone will take you seriously.

So, where's the logic in your rhetoric, dear Paul? Pray tell, how does
my noting that Id's registration reminder is sexist make me a demogogue?
Because I advocate others to register their disgust (if they have any) so
that Id may have a rethink of their marketing strategies?
: : : Frankly, there are too many "-isms" these days and too many "sensitive"

Because your response typifies this group. Nuff said, really. Consider
it an insult if you will, just as if I'd called you a wanker.
[snip: re paul's lack of observation skills]

Please explain, paul, how observation + reporting of acknowledged trends is
equal to `sweeping over-generalisation.' You have me puzzled.
: To my way of thinking, id's "be a
: man" statement in no way implies that id is denying that women use
: computers; the statement simply summarizes a marketing approach.
And a pretty fucked one at that, on both counts. If women buy Heretic,
it'll be _despite_ the reminder and not because of it. Where women
instead decide not to bother buying it (instead getting an alternative
1st person DOOM-alike or pirating), well you'll no doubt actually be able
to sustain your belief that "women don't buy games like Heretic."
: But I
: guess us "American types" are overly concerned with individual rights.
Indeed, you said it and not I.
Thankfully, our country has things called anti-discrimination laws.
So-called `individual rights' in the USA is used as an excuse not to
crack down on those systems and structures that promote hegemony (ie,
`keeping the poor, poor; the powerless, powerless').
: : The fact that you're a mysogynistic cretin doesn't change demographics.
: What demographics are you talking about? Quote a few stats, pal, and maybe
: someone will take you seriously.
Stats may not be available, but, demographics remain there to be
analysed. Among my friends, DOOM and DOOM ][ is popular with roughly an
equal proportion. I would like to gather the data myself, but, quite
frankly, I have a life.

I think that the "become a man" bit, while being directed towards a more
masculine market, is entirely in line for the character and theme of Doom/
Heretic. It was not meant to exclude the female element in the game. Please
come to grips with this. If you can't, remember: Nobody asked you to play the
game. This was not meant to be a politically correct game in which we go
about expressing our feelings and loving one another while observing
and respecting each character's racial and ethnic validity. It is about
extreme violence and kicking ass.
And please lay off the WASP/American stereotypes, generalizations,
and prejudices. If you are trying to be sensitive to women, I'm sure
that you've damaged this with your comments about WASPs and American ideals.
