Heretic switches players modem games

Has anyone else ran into the heretic bug where it switches the players in
a modem game? If you are playing a two player game over teh modem and
save the game, then quit heretic and reload it will switch the players
about half the time. You will be playing your friends character and he
yours. The problem is intermittend and almost appears random. If you
exiting and reloading the same savegame eventually you will be playing
the correct character.
