Hi I just picked up these games off of the internet and needed some
help.

Heretic: Is there more to this game? I have the cheat codes etc.,
for it but it doesnt seem as good as Doom, even with the flying, I
don't have my soundcard yet so maybe the sound will make it worth
getting? Right now it's just sort of taking up space...

Rise of the Triad: This looks good, but does anyone know how I can
get some cheat codes for god and dog modes? I know of the 'weapons'
cheat, 'dipstick' then type 'chojin' and use the insert key to cycle
through all weapons including godfire, for some reason this dies on
the second level... Also How do I get off the second level? I can't
figure it out. I'm sort of thinking of buying this one even thought
it's sort of a step back from Doom, it's just that it has a NICE CD
package for a real good price. But I would really like more cheat
codes other than chojin, speed ( i figured that one out) and ride.

Quarantine: This game looks ok, well running over people that is, cough!
I dunno I think I want to see an interactive preview of it before I decide
to get it or not.

Doom: I have shareware doom, my question for this is should I go for
the registered copy of Doom or should I get Doom II instead? I want
to be able to use all of the add on WADS etc., (plus kill this guilt
trip about not having it registered yet! chuckle). Also where can I
get a list of local chicago players for Doom? Is there a directory
somewhere?

Hopefully I will have the money to get these games soon. Triad really
seems like a good buy but I can't get past the second level. Doom is
'the' game to own as well. If money permits I would also get Quarantine
(if it has a good review) as for Heretic I dunno about that one, tons
of cheats but it still doesnt seem so great.

If anyone can help me out with any cheat codes, sales on the CD copy
of the games, opinions or reviews etc., email me at:

Olatunji Nowlin
u60...@uicvm.uic.edu

I want to make sure that I don't waste my money on a bad game,
so any input would be helpful.

In my opinion, wait for Dark Forces to come out if you really want a good
first person game. I just downloaded the demo and it is absolutely
stunning. The music and the graphics are top notch. In fact the scrolling
is better than in Doom II, even on my 486/33. If you want one of the
games you mentioned I would get Doom II. ROTT is pretty decent but the
graphics are nothing to write home about in my honest opinion. The only
thing I really like is the violence. :)

I was very disappointed in this game. Played it but after Doom and Rott just
couldn't get into it.

Really do enjoy this game. Very good on network with multiple players. Awesome
weapons cool graphics. Very smooth.

The cheats were recently posted to alt.games.doom but since this post was
also directed at a couple other groups I think I'll risk reposting them.
I'll just include the whole post so credit is given where due...

Dog mode isn't in shareware. That's a registered only thing. As for God
mode, I've seen all the cheat codes posted in cpisg.action, as well as alt.
games.apogee as well. They'll be in the next version of the Apogee FAQ,
I'd wager.

Level two involves a lot of backtracking. There are areas where you go
to, flip a switch, and then have to go back to a place you've been to
before (but don't back up into the main area before the first locked door.
Once you go beyond the first locked door, there's no need to go back
there.)

start of message/reply:> Regarding DOOM: Get DOOM2, then download a utility
called WAD1TO2b.zip from ftp.cdrom.com. This will convert DOOM1 WAD files to
work in DOOM2, so you can play all those PWADS on the Net.

Regarding ROTT, Numerous subscribers to this newsgroup don't agree!! (Wait for
the flames!!) Not tried it myself though so can't really comment.

Regarding HERETIC, tried it, loved it, get it! Uses the same game engine as
DOOM.

Okay, this begs the question: Where can I download this from? BBS? FTP? FBI?
CIA? MOUSE? PLease post, 'cause I'm sure I'm not the only one interested.
