You can accuse me for playing an illegal copy, but it's not a crime to
play a good game, is it? 8-)
(I know, a little irellevant, and maybe stupid, but that's also a good
description of me...)
To WAD editors: Ye Olde Hall Of Mirrors "effect" would now seem to be
confined to being just a legend of the past. So you can make those
architecturally (sp?) MONSTROUS levels you have dreamt of, and upload
those levels that just had too much HOM.
ALLLLLso, all the new monsters can be put in levels with DEU (or any other
editor where you can specify the object number yourself) by using object
numbers
64 to 89
(almost DEFINITE, but there must be more).
This includes Blue Dudes (Wolfies, or "Kumfoffles") and two new hanging
bodies and four new hanging torsos, Commander Keen, two new light lamps, a
small pool of blood, one with a brain, one with flesh, Mr. Fat Flamer, Mr.
Arch-"Oh no!"-Vile, Mr. Arachnotron, Mr. Pain-in-the-arse-Elemental, Mr.
Hell-Knight, Mr. Skeleton etc etc tetectectetcflamingbintetcttectetctetctec.
I have actually worked out the numbers (but I forgot to bring them in today).
Bugger.
And (for those naughty naughty people who have played Doom ][, two of the
objects will not be visible. One is #89, if I remember correctly. This one
spawns the skull cubes and mumbles when it sees you. The other is their
destination (a bit like teleport landings).
You can even use your editor (DEU of course) and make a wad file with
these (as DEU says) "UNKNOWN 00xx" objects. Before you "-file" it to play
it, you have to find the first mention of "ExMx" in your wad file and
replace it with "MAPyy". eg E1M1 would become MAP01 (doesn't have to be
01, could be 85 if you want, and yes, I do know it only goes up to 32, but
you can create your own number (I made 33)). When you want to DEU it, you
will have to change the MAPxx back to EyMy so DEU recognises it.
And lastly (phew!) you are a bit limited with textures - use STARTAN3, GRAY4
or BROWNHUG (ones I know work) and FWATER1 or the wood textures for the
floor (I think). I DO know the textures I have mentioned work, since, DUH,
I have made a WAD for Doom ][.
Am I the first? Maybe. It would be nice, wouldn't it?

Wrong. HOM is caused by a number of things, and only one of them
(more than 128 visible surface edges) is addressed by 1.666. The others
are all still out there.

We've been able to do that since the 1.4 beta. What you have to do as a
WAD designer is gauge whether 1.666 is in use by a big enough %age of
the audience to let you get away with saying "1.666 only" on your WAD
description file. As of this moment, it's probably still smarter to
release a WAD you can use with 1.2.

Ahaaaa! Ok, thank you for enlightening me... I hadn't seen anybody mention
that, maybe a look through a recent FAQ might have helped...
Still, Doom is a lot better than it was.

Yeah, I must concur with your reasoning... the number of posts I've seen
from people having trouble patching their 1.2 to 1.666.

Thank you.
