I do work for Microsoft, so I guess it's time for an "Official Statement"

Yes. Microsoft and id are working on a port of Doom to Windows. The
only publicly announced date was "before Christmas".

A preliminary version of WinDOOM was shown at the WinG announcement
at the Game Developers Conference.

Some details: The same WinDOOM executable runs under Windows 3.1,
Windows NT, and Chicago. It includes network support (including TCP/IP
and IPX). It uses WinG (the high-speed graphics library). It supports the
same WAD format as the MS-DOS game.

The only requirement is a display which supports at least 256 colors.
(It will "work" on a 16 color display, but talk about ugly!) It supports all
sound and music devices which have Windows drivers.

(Apologies if you see this article multiple times. My NNTP connection is
being screwy today.)

And is the rumor that all the imps have been re-drawn to resemble Bill
Gates also true? If so, put me on your mailing list! ;-)

Mama, hand me that dang shotgun-- one o'them skinny, bespectacled
imp-fellers is a'headin' up the road, an' I'm a'gonna send'im back whar
he came from!
