OK, the new and improved version of RanDOOM has just been uploaded to
ftp.uwp.edu in the /pub/incoming/id directory. It takes care of the
problems described in the original post for this thread. Also changed
is the WAD restore function, which is now faster than in 1.0.

Also included are some more sample weight files.

Keep those bug reports and comments coming! ;-)

I haven't tried version 1.1, but version 1.0 disabled the transporter on
E2L1 for me, making it impossible to finish the level unless you turn off
the clipping and wander around through walls....
I'll try it with the new version.

I would first like to say that RanDOOM is great! Excellent utility for
keeping doom more exciting than ever!!

I would like to point out to the author, though, these three things.

1) You said 1.1 fixed the problem of placing objects in walls. IT still
seems to happen, especially with spiders :(.

2) I usually use RanDoom for netplay. It seems that you have provided
the switch for the random seed to avoid pointless xfers of the 10 meg wad
file. I seem to get consistency failures though.

3) Once, I decided to play out the first episode again after randooming.
Disappointingly, I was unable to complete the last level. When I got
there, the Baron's were there as usual, but there was another roaming the
star as well. After killing everyhting, the walls failed to lower,
leaving me stuck. Any ideas?

I can answer #3: The star walls will lower once ALL BARONS on that level are
killed. You said youve killed all of them, BUT: in the secret room north
of the star (where you get teleported to, and usually your ass kicked),
there may be another baron - these too must be killed. I couldn't figure
out why the walls didn't drop for me, so I turned off clipping, and
snuck into that room (you can see it with idbehold-a), and lo and behold
there were 3 more barons in that room. After blasting the w/ the BFG
a couple of times, they died, and I heard the walls dropping. Turned around
and they had. I think this is particular to this level - the other finales
don't have hidden rooms. Perhaps the next version can make sure no barons
appear in that secret room. Other than that - RanDoom is THE most awesome
randomizer out to date - Great Job!

I just got version 1.1 in the mail on Friday. I checked E2L1, it seem
fine. In 1.1 they have included a
new DOSExtender version.... the old one worked fine, but oh well. The
problem I am having is that I can only save in the first 4 Save Slots...
if I try to save in 5 and 6 the saves are written to 1 and 2 respectivly.
Anyone else having this bug?

Actually, it is written very plainly that this bug has not yet been fixed. It
is more of a programming problem than a bug. If you can figure a way around
this then why don't you write a randomizer instead of getting picky.

I missed the original post but I experienced probs saving games when
I installed DOOM. My C:\ drive has only 5 megs allocated to it and
because DOOM +insists+ on saving to C, games failed due to corrupted
data.

Hope this helps,

Clive
