Heretic won't work!!!!!!!!

VGA card. I know it's running BlueMax memory management and it may
have some network drivers loaded as well, it's not my machine, it's a
friends, honest.

The game starts to load, gets to Loading Graphics and just freezes,
needs to be powered off and on to restart.

Anyone got any suggestions on how to fix this, other than get a decent
PC?
