Hey all

I seem to remember somebody posting about this a looong time ago, but
can't seem to find the post, so here goes:

Just finished hell with my sorc, and went to NM to get some missed
quests. But everytime I talk to Cain in act IV the game crashes, with a
"Your connection has been lost" message. When re-connecting I get "realm
down" for 10-15 minutes, and then suddenly I can connect again...
Needless to say this is pretty damn annoying. I've now done it 3 times
in a row - every time the same thing: No problems with connection,
untill I visit Cain in act IV, then Connection Lost. No problems talking
to him in the other acts, and no problems in act IV in Hell (as far as I
can remember). Pretty weird.

If anybody has a solution, I would greatly appreciate it.

sincerely

Or try using another char, or ask another player, to get the soulstone
for you. Or kill Meph just for the damn soulstone.

Hmm, you could use it to convert any item in the cube into a quiver of
arrows. Soulstone occupies one slot, quiver occupies three, so having
a soulstone handy saves you *gasp* two slots! (-;

I tried killing Meph again. It doesn't work. Looks like Meph only
drops the stone once.

Once you lose the soulstone you cannot do the quest anymore. Not until
they fix this bug at least.

Please excuse my ignorance, what's the SBL?

???
I still don't get the benefit of duping Meph's Soulstone. What can I do with
it?

Yea - same thing here =/ Well, I can wait with that quest, doesn't
really matter.

I did the hellforge quest in all three difficulties some hours before,
starting off with one soulstone in my stash. Talked to Cain in Hell,
killed the smith and got the quest. Went to Nightmare, killed Mephisto
- no soulstone. Went through the portal to act 4, talked to Cain (who
had an exclamation mark above his head), got a soulstone, etc...
Went to Normal, didn't bother to kill Mephisto, went straight to act 4
and talked to Cain, got a stone,...

Could it be that bug only hits you if you drop the soulstone after
having received it during the past days (meaning after the dupefix) and
try to retrieve a new one now?

Regards,
Gunde

There has been a hack out for ages to drop a zillion soulstones (and
Malah's scroll, etc), but of course you can only get the quest once.
It seems the front end sends the "drop me a soulsone" request and the
host just does it without any checking; these hacks just send heaps of
the request packets and are amusing and probably add a bit of load to
the server but are otherwise harmless.

The new hack that has been causing dupes and lags etc is said to be
"similar to" the soulstone hack; given the bug they introduced with
Cain and soulstones when attempting to fix the hack this seems
reasonable. I suppose it has something to do with sending a corrupted
"drop me a soulstone" packet and getting the server to drop something
else instead. But that is just speculation.

Thank you for enlightening me, Mark! I know that this level doesn't exist! I
just want to know the benefits of this hack! What can I do with all those
soulstones.

Look, they have no use of any kind (not that I can think of), unless you
want to be creative, and whenever doing a meph/diablo/ball/<insert boss that
has potentially good drops> run with potential grabbing low level leecher,
drop the soulstone as the boss dies, and the grabber will instinctively go
for the gold letters (if he's doing it manually ofcourse), and waste a
split-second by grabbing a useless soulstone!

Just a thought, use it, don't use it.....
