For me, out of the characters, I rate the characters from best to worst
as far as voice acting quality goes like this:
1. Necromancer (laugh all you want at him saying "help me," but it does
sound the most in-character of the bunch, and his screaming also beats
out the rest of the characters)
2. Barbarian (he does sound authentic)
3-4. Tie between Assassin and Druid (some of the assassin lines are said
just right; I haven't played that much as a druid but I like what I hear)
5. Paladin (OK, but not great)
6. Amazon (at least the actress made some effort)
7. Sorceress (really bad, screams out "cue card" in everything she says,
it's a shame that more people will hear her voice than any other
characters because of the current Battle.net situation)
I'm not even about to rate all of the NPCs from best to worst, but I do
have a definite favorite and least favorite.
Favorite NPC voice acting: The three prime evils (maybe it's just the
way they were recorded, but the voices fit the characters quite well)
Least favorite NPC voice acting: Kashya (did the person who played as
the sorceress play as Kashya as well?)
What do the rest of you think?

I hate the voice of the sorceress too, I never thought about the rest.
I play amazon and very seldom hear other play Diablo.

nope, no Mac :-P
The worst voice acting: All actors of the German version! Why are German
voice actors so lame in most games? They read their text, no feel for their
role, no acting indeed, just reading. I'm glad that I have the US CE :)

If i knew this before i bought the game... Those voices are...Ok, lets
change topic here. No wait: The german voice of Baal in the LoD
starting movie is quite ok. Meshif is halfways ok too, but the rest...

I agree... this is why I always buy english versions of games (Diablo, HL,
UT...).
And english versions are not censored too!
My favorite voice is charsi's... I really like her (voice) ;-)...
Oh yeah.....
p.s. I'm joking. I don't get off to voices, only pictures.
My favorite was the rogue voice from D1. When your inventory is full
she would say "Now, where would I put *this*," with a heavy emphasis on
"this," in kind of a sultry voice. Seemed full of innuendo to me,
although I may need to get out more... :-)

I can't stand the voice of "Jerhyn," the Lord of Lut Gholein. He does
these horrible, lackluster readings in the flattest voice I've ever
heard. Who chose this guy? His voice is so completely lacking in
character, his delivery so uninflected... ugh. At least the other
NPCs' voices (like Gheed, or that potion seller in Kurast) liven up
the dialogue a bit, but this Jerhyn makes his lines even worse. Maybe
his voice is supposed to suggest regal refinement, sangfroid, and
sophistication, or something like that. Or maybe he's supposed to
come across the helpless, useless petty nobleman that he is, in which
case the actor did o.k.
Deckard Cain sounds like a cheesy hybrid of Sean Connery and Jimmy
Stewart, but I guess I'm stuck with him.
The angels and devils have great voices, suitably otherworldly and
authoritative in their respective ways.
Andariel, with her freaky howls and moans, has to be my favorite NPC
voice. I love it when she comes stomping after you, shouting "YOU
WILL FEAR ME". That and the way the evil rogues grunt and scream when
they're cut down. Maybe it's the combination of the voices and the
none too subtle outfits that's so effective. God knows what the other
people in the house think I'm watching.
Hearing the Barbarian shout out "Help me!" and "oops" at random
intervals always makes me laugh. His tacky Schwarzenegger-ish
one-liners when he kills the bosses are pretty good too.
JUST DONT MAKE ME GO BACK TO BEING.....HIM....
I CANT DO IT MAN...YOU BOTTLE OF PISS...

The first quest at the beginning of Act II. Atma, the lady that tells you
to go kill Radament down in the sewers. She sounds, I don't know, tired,
like she didn't get much sleep the night before doing the voice-over.
And she doesn't sound very emotional at all, considering how the thing
that murdered her husband and children is living underneath the very
sewers where she lives.

Both of the Act 4 merchants sound kind of fruity with their "Hail to
you, Champion" line, delivered in that weird bedroom voice... then
again, sane and healthy merchants wouldn't want to live in a two-room
fortress right above the plains of Hell, right?

Diablo 2 is a great reason to use headphones, I agree. :-p
