This ladder season I began playing on the realms again, and I started a
project to see how much I could legitimately acquire in solo play on
closed b-net. I wrote previously about my project at the Amazon Basin,
but, basically, I played Classic until I had a sorc reasonably capable
of rushing 72 mules to Hell Act III, then I rushed them all, perming
them in the process. Next, I played until I had an expansion sorc
capable of finishing the rushes for their Hellforges. Along the way,
I'd do runs with my sorc to try finding better gear. Usually, I'll do
every major level 85 area, and any boss that can drop something special,
like keys or essences, plus Cows.
I've had some good success with the project, and still trying to wrap up
the Hellforge rushes before the reset, after which I'll write a full
report. It turns out that 72 mules ripe for forges in all difficulties
is just *too many runes* to do all at once, so I staggered them,
replenishing stocks as I spent them on various recipes. My expansion
sorc just turned 90, yesterday, and immediately set to crafting the
three mules of stuff that I had held onto for her reach that level.
Nothing even close to godly resulted from that endeavor, sadly. I was
kind of hoping for a late reset, but oh, well.
This project was intended to see how much of my lost stables could be
replaced in one season. Obviously, I can't replace four seasons worth
of stuff in one, but I did better than I had expected, and got to make
some things I hadn't made before, which now will sit on NL characters
and hopefully won't vanish before I can "retire" to play using them.
