Having wasted my normal imbue on a pair of boots (not too bad but could have
gambled them) I wanted to get some ideas of what people have been imbuing. I
have 85 str, so do know what armor that limits me to, but think armor would
be the way to go. BTW I'm lvl39.

Thanks,
Lisa

Well ...

An imbue is really just a random rare, very similar to gambling or a boss kill.

I wouldn't anguish over it too much.

If you do a staff, there is about a 25% chance (my guess, from some random
observations) that you will get +1/+2 to skills.

A circlet is probably a better odds deal. Or an orb.

The problem is that an imbue wipes off any existing skills on the item.

For a sorc, you are looking for resists and pluses to skills (by NM you must
have fastest run boots, treads, fetlocks or something similiar so you don't
need boots and with armor, heck, if you get that close, they will hit you).

Think of it as a source of something to sell or a gamble with good odds. As
long as your character is otherwise good.

Now if you don't have good resists on your armor or if you have some other weak
spot on your character, go for it on that item and hope for the best.

My regular imbue got me a staff with +1 to skills, + static, + shiver armor
(and lots of wasted stuff, including 50% monsters flee when struck -- actully
used it when I was down on mana once). -- but that was pure luck.

frankly i wouldnt bother imbuing any sort of staff, you can build leaf or
memory which will kill anything you could get from an imbue. imbue a bow or
war pike or something so you can trade.

I imbued a Jared's Stone with my level 42 sorc with my normal imbue and
here's what I got:

Bone Gyre Jared's Stone
12% chance to cast level 5 nova on striking
Plus 1 sorceress skill levels
20%faster cast rate
4%mana stolen per hit
plus 7 life
plus 54 mana
lightning resist 22%
plus 3 fire wall
plus 2 thunder storm
plus 2 blizzard

No enhanced damage or anything but not bad for a lvl req of 24. But I
agree. it would be best to try to imbue something to trade because the
rune word for staves just rocks.

Id imbue some ornate plate, or maybe some other piece of armor that is
unlikely to be replaced. (belt?)
Staves and orbs are likely to come up with something more suited for a melee
class. (life, mana drain, atk bonus etc etc etc)

Has anyone tried socketing and runewording an orb yet? I was wondering if
the 2 socket stave recipe(Leaf) worked in orbs as well. I haven't seen any
socketed orbs drop, only white, magic or rare.

Yup, they do exist - I've picked up a couple of socketed orbs so far, but
haven't used them.
