After a long absence from the game I felt like playing again. So I
started a new paladin with holy shock as his main attack. Holy shock
provides a ton of damage with very little gear required.
Skills:
Max Holy Shock
Max Resist Lightning (synergy)
Max Holy Shield
Max Zeal
1 Salvation (very useful)
Gear:
I started with absolutely nothing. As I progressed along I picked up
stuff here and there like Bloodfist, Sigon boots and belt, an Anya
shield that I didn't immediately sell, a Rockstopper hat, and a
Headstriker. I also had a Hawkmail which I liked so much I upped it to
exceptional.
Finally I got lucky and got an Um from the NM forge. I traded that for
a Pul plus a Guardian Angel, then I traded the Pul for a Nosferatu
belt plus a lightsabre. I also was able to trade some perfect gems for
the Angelic set ring and amulet plus the sigon gloves.
Sigon gloves+sigon boots = 30% ias and 10% life leech
Angelic set and ring = huge boost to attack rating
I loved having the cannot be frozen mod in the Hawkmail but now I'm
using the Guardian Angel. A Ravenfrost would be ideal for the plus to
AR, dexterity,and CBF.
Stats are 118 strength for GA, 133 dex for lightsabre (chance to block
is at 75% at level 80), and the rest in vit. Since I have few or no
charms I need more points in strength and dex and less in vitality.
Unfortunately my life is not very high, only about 750.
This character can go through all areas of hell difficulty. He does
have problems with souls in the Worldstone Keep, but he can put on
salvation and get 95% lightning resist. I think that with more life he
will do better. As with all melee characters, iron maiden can cause
problems, too. This actually is less of a problem for the tesladin.
All I need is a weapon switch that has specifically low physical
damage. A Priest's War Scepter of Quickness would be ideal, or maybe a
plain socketed scepter stuffed with perfect amethysts.
This kind of character needs a high attack rating. Charms will help
with this.
I chose to get a defensive mercenary. He needs some work. He does not
stay alive against groups.
There are relatively few lightning immunes in the game compared to
fire or cold immunes. I'd guess there are fewer lightning immunes than
physical immunes. For plain LIs I just use zeal and salvation, as the
LIs frequently are accompanied by a LE boss. Or I can use zeal and
might. For enemies that are immune to physical and immune to
lightning, I run for the hills. This is very rare.
To do:
Get a Crescent Moon phase blade (probably better than lightsabre for
this build)
Get a Raven Frost
Get a 4D shield (or a HoZ if I get really lucky)
Get a decent hat and armor for merc (Tal Rasha hat or whatever is
affordable)
Find an amn rune for merc weapon
Get a good weapon switch and test it against oblivion knights,
Get more life via charms
Improve poision resist (it's negative)

If you say that quickly enough, then it acutally sounds easy!
Nice to read your story.
I'm still quite new to the game (on-line) and with SP it takes months
to get a char completely through hell, so haven't done that many builds.
This is another interesting one to try out later :)
On which realm do you play?

Is there a character editor for SP so you can just create whatever
character you want? There should be. That way you can test whatever
skills, equipment, etc. you want. On Bnet it's easy to do whatever
build you want, you can do a level 80 build in a weekend.

US East.
I had a program called Jamella or something.
Think it could edit both items and chars, not sure if there's a 1.12 or even
a 1.10 version. I've only used ATMA as a muling system for off line play.
Level 80 in one weekend, ooh, how is everyone able to trade
hell-viable stuff in one weekend? Really need to learn how to do this...

Ah, most of the people here are on US.
I'm currently on Europe, probably going US too when the ladder resets.

I don't know if there's anything useful These might be relevant to your

> Level 80 in one weekend, ooh,
You can get level 80+ in a couple hours, if you have a good rusher and
runner. I know I've gotten 90 in around 4 hours before...
> how is everyone able to trade

Well, trading for hell-viable stuff in a weekend sorta assumes you've got
similarly valued stuff available to trade already, that, or that you get
lucky with drops/forge when you're making the character.
Lv.80 in an hour or 2 while not doing any work (maybe 1-2 hours more if you
have a slow rushing team):
1) Get rushed to Hell Act3 using Classic
2) Convert to expansion (leaves you in Hell Act1, if I remember correctly)
2.5) Take time to level yourself upto about 10, then Normal-TombRun to 20
(If you wanna do something for yourself - but you can ignore this stop if
you wanna)
3) Stand at safe spot in UberTrist XP-Run while a pally spams hammers.
4) Equip your "end-game" items and help rush other people or go PvP, etc
(I normally go back and do all the remaining quests, get WPs, etc at this
point)
Its been a few years since I did this... so sorry if one or two details are
a little off - but I think its all correct (or very near :o)
If you've got a REALLY good group of friends / rushers... they will have
UberTrsit already setup for you while you are being rushed through Classic
so you dont waste the few mins it takes for them to kill 2/3 of the bosses.
Rush through classic normally takes around 20 min.
Once you hit about 20-25 in UberTrist XP-run... you'll be Lv.80 in about
30-60 mins later.

Can be done without classic rush, too. I've never done a classic rush, and
all my guys hit 80+ in a few hours.
Doing it in expansion will slow you down alot unless you have characters on
standby to glitch Baal with though.
If you dont have characters already waiting on standby then you've gotta
level-up during rush or sometimes spend all day waiting for a Kill Baal game
to get someone's attention :os
> If you dont have characters already waiting on standby then you've gotta
> level-up during rush or sometimes spend all day waiting for a Kill Baal

Like I said, every character I've made was 80 or higher in a few hours, so
waiting never really took that long.
Its possible to do it that way... but just skipping the entire Act5 and not
having to wait for people to join a KillBaal game seems alot faster to me
On the flipside; ClassicRush does mean that you need to get the person to
Hell-Act3 before conversion though so if you dont have someone who is also
fast at Hell-Act2 rushing then you could theoretically be slower than
someone with a perfect expansion rush (one where they dont have to wait for
people who need baal).
Well, leveling and equipping a single rush character in classic would take
my group longer than the time we've spent waiting on all 20+ exp rushes I've
done. If we had a geared classic rusher it'd be faster, but getting a rusher
MADE in classic is the slow part.
*chuckles*
This was an enjoyable discussion - we should do it again sometime :oP

Yep, it's working.
I've choosen to max zeal, sacrifice and holy shock.
The rest is going to resist lightning and last to salvation.
Only 1 in holy shield. Enough for 75 block IF I could find
a better shield (currently using a recently found 4 socket
41 res targe with spirit runeword).
Haven't reached act 4 so don't know how good or bad he
goes in hell with those iron maiden curses. For now I've used
a 6 sock bow, 4 p amethysts, a shael and an eth.
With this, NM act 4 and 5 aren't much of a problem.
Except for boss packs. Have to take it very carefully when
going solo.
And ehm.. almost ashamed to say this .. I'm still using the
act 1 merc I got for free from kashya. And it actually helps
in these areas!
Why did you choose to max holy shield?
Isn't that wasting points to increase zeal/shock synergies?

Absolutely.
Problem is that sometimes a whole area is filled with li immumes.
But with zeal and synergy from sacrifice it's not a show stopper.
You could use the cold aura .. what's the name .. for a little bit of
extra damage since you've already spent one point in it as prereq
for holy shock. And it slows them down too.

Could use a cold aura here too.
But running is probably better/faster.

It really helps with defence and boost smite damage if you decide to do some
one-point smiting.

Holy Freeze

It does.

Running *with* Holy Freeze is even easier.
BTW, having one-point HF as a back-up was part of the reason why, with the
only Tesladin I ever made ("NikTesla" of course) had more points in
Salvation rather than Resist Lightning. Salvation, as well as being useful
in it's own right in Uber Tristram, also synergises HF. Ok, it doesn't add
so much to HS but the combination of the other two benefits convinced me to
throw points in there *before* I maxed RL.
