(Posting from a job-site via Google, so I don't know what'll appear in
the "from" line of this post. But it's me, Stevie.)

Noticed this little tidbit posted today on Arreat Summit, under
"News"...

=================================================

September 22, 2003

Hi
A common question recently is why have there been no new updates since
August 4? Well the answer is that now that you have a version of 1.10
to play with that there really isn't any NEW news to post about. We're
still working on the patch and a large number of people are devoted to
testing it. Once that patch is released there will be a few more
updates to the site. But this site was pretty much completed back in
late 2001. Our one strategy site web person (me who shall not be
named) is currently finishing up some Warcraft III guide stuff before
moving on to World of Warcraft. Since the web guides are free, we have
one person that works on them in his spare time. We did quite a lot
with the Arreat Summit and we'll continue to update it as patches come
out but it's pretty much in it's final form. This has no
influence/relation on the actual game itself which will continue to be
supported via patches and so on. We hope you do appreciate what we
were able to do with this guide in the 2 years we worked on it. We
will continue to add new Diablo II news to this site. Please continue
to watch this web site for any new Diablo II news from Blizzard.

=================================================

...My first thought:

"Hello, AMATEUR HOUR." What the hell??? The ramblings from this
child don't even sound remotely CLOSE to the general text content of
the site, or even the text in the 'News' section. Either this kid is
new to the job, or his Daddy (the editor) fell asleep at the wheel.
Wow.

THIS is the kind of Amateur-Hour crap that represents the "official
word" from Blizzard nowadays??? A few specific thoughts:

"Once that patch is released there will be a few more updates to the
site." -Not according to what we've already been told; both on Arreat
Summit AND on BNet Forums. Since there was a bulletin right on this
exact News page earlier stating that 1.10 would be the last patch
ever, should we we guess this kid is too new to the job to remember
that?

"We have one person that works on them in his spare time" - should
read 'WHO works on them'... Most people (not including the occasional
U.S. Presidential candidate, say a Democrat perhap,) are NOT inanimate
objects, and the pronoun should reflect that fact. Also, with the
awkward "Our one strategy site web person (me who shall not be named)"
thrown out there, plus "but it's pretty much in it's final form" (the
second "it's" should have been "its" without an apostrophe...)
-There's obviously either an editor who was correcting this garbage
before but doesn't do so any longer, or Daddy recently quit the
Blizzard webmaster job and turned it over to his twelve-year-old.
Yikes.

. . . uh . . . .

am i the ONLY one left who ever checks the Summit ??? -That'd be
pretty sad, since I don't even play the game anymore.

LOL. I posted that like 7 or 8 hours ago. Google warned me (after I hit
[send], of course,) that their posts can take anywhere from 3 to 8 hours to
hit the major newsfeeds... So a few hours late I looked and it still wasn't
posted. I figured "Great; so I'll post this like it's brand spanking new
info and by the time people see my post there will already be thirty others
discussin the latest news, and I'll look like I'm TOTALLY behind the 8-ball
on this one, posting a "me too" after everybody else has had their say.

Well. Not quite, heh heh.

Mine is still the only post here about the so-called "news" on Arreat
Summit. Blows me away. LOL.

dude....I never checked it in the first place for information. Its sorta
like the White House press pool.. Getting "insider" information that has
been public knowledge for weeks.
It IS a great resource for newbs and old timers, but up-to-date-breaking
news, they dont stand a chance against NG's like these.

(haven't played 1.10 and dont think the patch will be out by the holidays.
That kid has a paper route ya know)

Key words in the "update":
'We're still working on the patch and a large number of people are devoted
to
testing it.'

There's probably no one testing it at Bliz anymore, they are leaving that up
to us.
