So is there is method for picking your character name? For example the
first three letters of your first name and the last three letters of
your pets name.

I used a Latin Word. "Cursim" in Latin Means "Quick" (or so I'm told)

I looked on the front of the 'Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards' book I
have sitting on my table. It was published by the National Institute for
Occupational Health and Safety. So my character is Niosh.

I use my first pet's name and my mother's maiden name.
