the best way to have it it's to use magic. I suggest you use stone curse
(anyway, i think it is a very important spell for a warrior because
sometimes you past more time running after monsters than killing them....).
And usually dogs are not immune to light so you should use chainlight if you
do have that spell even if it cost you a lot of mana. That is a great battle
your having there and by killing them one at a time would make you proud
after.
Good luck

First the bad news: Wirt is out of poison dog biscuits.

Now the good news: You can defeat them.

That acid spit attack is actually a magic attack, and having lots of magic
resistance will keep your from dying as quickly. Anything with a thieves
suffix will also reduce the amount of damage from their attacks (it affects
magic attacks as well).

Tactics: Obviously you don't want to get hit by their spit, but its very easy
when fighting them to end up standing in a puddle of the acrid stuff, and you
will suffer damage very quickly this way. Watch your feet and stay out of
puddles that are flickering! (once they stop flickering they are safe) The
dogs do less damage with thier bite than their spit so if there are only a few
and no leader, closing in and killing them off is to your advantage. If there
is a leader, they will turn into rapid fire death machines so you want to stay
away from the leader's attacks.

Firewall is your friend (except for lava maws in Hell) and you can lay a
series of these over the dogs to roast them, or you can lay them out as a
barrier to wound the dogs as they try to pursue you. (lightning wall in
Hellfire works too, but it takes much longer)

Chain Lightning works wonders on these evil pups. It not only spreads out to
hit most of them, but its range is much greater than the dogs spit.

Stone curse. If you are in the catacombs, you can stone curse a couple of the
dogs and block the other ones from getting to you and then lay down some
firewalls (Thanks to whoever posted this a few days ago, it saved my warriors
fanny twice already). Also, IF you can get your cursor over the leader without
dying rght away, stone curse him! This will make the job of dealing with the
other dogs much much easier. Tha one unique dog (especially if its Death Spit
or Plague Wrath) is worse than all his buddies combined.

If the dogs are behind an obstacle (I always try to keep one infravision handy
for the dog packs) you can cast some guardians just past the corner, possibly
blocking the dogs in while the guardians are softening them up.

If you do get into a pursuit situation, lay down some firewalls behind you and
try to pick off a dog as it comes around a corner (hard to do in caves) and if
you've got a door you can close, use it to buy some time while you set up some
more firewalls (runes might work here too) or pop back up to town for more
potions (I hope you're using the belt hotkey numbers 1-8 for drinking the
potions!)

The dogs aren't easy, but they are satisfying to defeat.

Last night I had a Barbarian about the same level in the Caves against
the 'smart dogs'. I manage to spread them out by getting them to
chase me around rocks(obstacles) to split them up; divide and conquer
tatic. IMPORTANT: I had first killed everything else on the level.
My Barbarian found the kill very satisfying; I don't think he believes
in magic.

Highlight:
After killing the leader, Ole Blue(my nickname), Ugh says, "We dunt
need no stinkin magic."

Here's how you do it. You buy or find your Warrior a good bow (of the bear
would be nice), and from an area of cover, send some arrows in the direction
of the little hell hounds and *eventually* you will kill enough of them to
where you can take out the rest with your sword and not take as much damage
as you would have. BTW, don't let anyone see your warrior using a
bow...they look so goofy using one. <G> hehehehe

Stalker~||AE||,,,makes shish ka bobs out of acid beasts with his windforce.
