Quick question for you, what is the max spell level available? My lvl 31
fighter has 15 on some things and 13 for Firewall and it cant get higher (even
when I used a book to gain the knowledge). Is this a glitch? It IS possible
that I just assumed (bad idea I know) it was 13 to start with and wanted 14 and
it could have been 12 originally but I doubt it

Maybe you did just forget the level of your Firewall before you read the book.
I usually write mine down that I still need so everytime I visit Adria I don't
have to look to see if I need the book or what spell level it's on. When I
find one, I'll mark on my paper what level it is and cross-out the old level.
Well, I do that when I hit the one shrine that ups all spell levels one and
decreases one spell one level. And when I visit Adria, I got equipped with my
Spell learning equip so I know right there and then if I can read it. The
following spells are at 15:
Firebolt, Charged Bolt, Holy Bolt, Healing, Inferno, Lightning, Town portal, &
Guardian
Also, when you are at level 15 on spells the magic point needed to read for the
next level (if there is even a level 16 spell...) is 255 from what I have seen
so I dont even have to right them down ;-)
Well, that's ONE way of doing it ;-) The biggest thing I hate (and I'm not the
only one) is that I can't import my Diablo equip to Hellfire for the purposes of
learning new spells. I spent a great deal of time AND money buying/finding this
stuff and with a total magic point *after* all equipment totalling 199
(legitimately mind you) it annoys me that I have to spend more money/time, BUT I
figure it like this: I could get even better stuff in HF. Just a minor
irritation :) The only other spells that I *really* want to get to lvl 15 are:
Chain Litening, Fireball, Flame Wave, and Golem, but Adira's bein the witch that
she is and not giving them up. I wanna get them maxed before I go into HF so
that my most commonly used spells wont cost me much of anything :)
Meteoric Bastard Sword of Sorcery +89% to hit (I think) and +20 to magic
Obsidian Shield or Brilliance 14ac +39 resist all and +14 magic
The Royal Circlet 40ac +10 to all (can't remember the rest--just found it
today)
Naj's Light Plate 46ac +5 to magic and +20 mana +20% resist all
Drake's Amulet of the Heavens +49 mana and +15 to all
Ring of Wizardry +30 magic
Jade ring of Wizardry +22% resist all and +28 magic
You are using a warrior--if I remeber correctly. I don't know what you could
really get as a warrior. I mean, a warrior really needs + to all attributes.
It is hard to get his magic up without losing out on another attribute.

I am wondering why nobody has thought to try to make this or if they did try,
how come it never went through. If I am wrong please correct me :)
Not bad at all :) My magic point/spell learning stuff is:
Amulet of Wizardry +30 Magic
Cap of Sorcery +20 Magic
Cobalt Ring of Wizardry +25 Magic +46% Resist Lightning
Plate of Sorcery +20 Magic
Ring of Zodiac +20 All Attributes
Shield of Brilliance +14 Magic
Sword of Sorcery +20 Magic
Base Magic 50
Maximum Plus to Magic 149
Total Magic # 199
but I keep this stuff in town and go with a whole different setup for when I am
killing everything in sight with a whack or two.
Awesome Plate AC 64 +162% Armor
Cobalt Ring of Wizardry +25 Magic +46% Resist Lightning
Empyrean Band +2 All Attributes +20% Light Radius
+20% Light Radius Fast Hit Recovery Absorbs ½ trap DMG
Obsidian Amulet of the Heavens +12 All Attributes +37% Resist All
Plate of Sorcery AC 49 +20 Magic
Ring of Zodiac +20 All Attributes
Shield of Brilliance 5 +14 Magic
Stone Cleaver (Axe) DMG 8 - 20 +30 HP
+20% To Hit +40% Resist Lightning
Veil of Steel 20 +15 Strength +15 Vitality
+50% Resist All +60% Armor
-20 Light Radius -30 Mana
most of what I have now I bought from Gris ;-)
Base Magic: 250
Magic Bonuses: 122
Total Magic: 372
I think my mana is just above(and I do mean JUST ABOVE) 900.
What I have regreted the past couple of days is that, with my Sorceror, I found
the Messerschmidt's Reaver (If you don't know what the stats are: It is a
Great Axe, +200% damage, +15 damage points, +5 to all, -50hps, and 2-12 Fire
Hit Damage). My Sorceror couldn't really use it so I sold it---what I should
have done was put it in the Corner of the World and started a new game with my
Barbarian to pick it up there. It never crossed my mind until about 5 minutes
after I sold the stupid thing.

You might want to note that a lot of spells need 255 long before they
are maxed. IIRC, Apoc needs 255 to get to level 6, and of course, each
subsequent level up to level 15.

Another method you might try is to just go down into the entrance to
the cats (closest entrance to Adria's hut) and come back up, her
inventory changes each time.
>Obsidian Shield or Brilliance 14ac +39 resist all and +14 >magic
double check that one. Jade is the highest resistance you can find on a
Brilliance shield (at least in a non-mod Diablo). Still a Jade of Brilliance
is a nice shield for a sorceror, especially if its a small low strength
requirement one.

with any character, i think, it's possible to have enough magic to raise spell
levels, although it would mean sacrificing the + attributes for the other
stats...
2 rings of perfect Wizardry(total +60 to magic)
an amulet of perfect wizardry(+30, making a total of +90)
a Dreamflange and a shield of brilliance(+30 and +14?, making a total of +134)
helm and armor of sorcery(+20 and +20, making a total of +174)
now, that's going to be some crazy set of equipment for a warrior, but for a
sorceror, it's quite a perfect equipment...(total of 424 for magic, i think,
for a sorceror at best...)
anyway, with the best items that can be found at adria's and at the dungeon,
you can raise the spell levels at best to 20, i think, from the last time i
scanned Jarulf's Guide, maybe 21...
well, that's only if you use the royal circlet, arch-angel's staff, and
others...
well, those are simply cold facts...(i'm still wishing for a dreamflange...)

yeah but if you use that set for only *spell learning* and not dungeon crawling
as I do, and use a second set of equipment for the dungeons then you'll be ok as
long as you remember to pick up all your stuff before you start a new game...
after you max out the attributes, why do you need that much gold in the begining
anyway? I usually drop about 100K per new game cause of my way of learning
spells and fighting in the bowls ;-) And if you go to Gris and find a better
item than you have (for any reason) then consider it a self made quest.

Guess what, my Magic Point numbers are at 198 LEGIT.. the one minor thing your
forgot was the base max score of 50 added to that for a grand total of
224....... is it poss to get a shield HIGHER than 14?

Yeah, +15 :)
In reg. D that is, in some of the mods the limit is 20..or perhaps more?

First of a few problems with this post: In SP, you can get elixirs
from Pepin or Adria, in MP they are available in the Church when
you're playing in NM or Hell diff (read: any level of the dungeon).

Next problem: I've never seen a shield of sorcery. Perfect Heavens
(+15) is the best I've ever seen.

20 is the most possible, with a Thinking Cap (Royal Circlet doesn't
add to spell levels), Arch-angel's staff, and Naj's Light Plate.

Not in regular Diablo, ald. Brilliance (+15 mag) or Moon (+7 all) is best.
In VK though, Sorcery and Heavens is max.

VK Hellfire does have Sorcery on Shields? I've seen quite a few heavens, but
not one with Sorcery suffix yet.

IIRC, yes. I haven't played VK HF in a loooong time though. Perrin is still

Well, I have gotten a shield of brialliance +14 in standard single diablo (not
hellfire yet)
