What's the best unique helmet for a warrior or barbarian. I just found
Gotterdamarung and it kicks ass, but the resistance = 0 stuff really screws
it over. What else is there?

it's best not identified, just taking the 60 a/c is all my warrior needed.
and he's damn grateful too :-)

I'm hoping Ver 1.05 bumped up the chance to find the Helm of Sprits an iota or
two.
I'd liketo find it once before D2 comes out.

Well, my Barbarian just keeps switching between the Undead Crown and the
Veil of Steel. With the Bovine Plate (unIDed, of course), armor isn't the
his highest concern, so switching between the extra life-stealing and the
50% resistance to all (plus loss of light radiance) works fine for him.

Joule-II loves his Veil of Steel. While the loss in mana is not good for
him. It's worth the offset.

I use The Undead Crown for my Barbarian. As I remember the stolen life depends
on your damage, and with a damage of 301-350 with a KAOH, you get a lot of
life.
Because of the life-stealing feature, he never comes out of a pure meelee
combat with less life.

Accually you can't change such things withouth morphing items players
are currently using. Besides, it is noce some items are really rare :)

There was a post some time agot on HoS hunting. Where to find it and
such. I think the main points were:

*Helm has a level 8
*The Unique item in it self has a level of 1
*There is another unique helm of level 7 (overlords helm)
*If you a unique item of a special type the best one (highest level)
is always choosen (in multiplayer)

With helm I mean the specific helm type "helm" not helms in general.

So:

The monsters has to be of level 8 or above to drop a helm. But it has
to be below level 7 to not drop the Overlords helm. Fortunately for
the determination of the base item heml, the bonus of difficulty to
the monsters level is accounted for. Thus we can have the following
conclusions:

*It can't be found on normal difficulty level as asny monster that
could drop the helm would if it is unique drop the Overlords helm
instead
*On nightmare and hell any monster whos base level is below 7 can drop
it.
*Normal monsters have a probability of 1% to drop uniques and thus any
of the monster with a level below 7 can drop it but very rarely.
Unique monsters have a +4 level bonus when it comes to determining
type of uniques and thus can't be of higher level than 2 (or they will
be above 7) and there exists as far as I know no such uniques. So
normal monsters are the only option.
*Playing on hell slightly decreases the chance for the helm as
monsters there due to +30 in level instead of +15 have a lot more base
items to choose from.
*Puting all together, it is a very rare item that is only found in
church from normal monsters (and possibly from chests and so too).

Well, that.s it. I might have forgot something or made som errors but
generally I think it shoul be correct.

Have you tried looking on level 2? I got mine from the butcher, if I
remember correctly, playing regular MP Diablo. I got the Undead Crown from
the Skeleton King playing Hellfire.

I have read in here before that Butcher gives it out. Pedro, is this
possible in your monster level figures? What difficulty would be the best
to find it in?

H'mm, I haven't found that one yet, but I just checked it in Pedro's Guide.
It looks nice, but +10 light radius? The Veil of Steel looks nicer to me,
but, again, it is available only in SP. Maybe this is why I like playing
single so much. Most of my characters have both the Veil and the Undead
Crown (well, not my sorceror, I think he sold his Crown) and most of the
ones who don't are still trying to get one or the other.

As i did understand your explanation, if the overlord's helm is not
generated to be dropped, the HoS would be the highest one the butcher could
drop.

Mine found both the Undead Crown and the Veil of Steel after his
initial game on Normal. I haven't run that character completely
through NM or Hell yet, but I'm leaning towards the Veil early on.
Reasons are primarily the resistance and armor bonuses. With the Veil
he's already got max resists at level 27 without needing to combine
anything else. the armor bonus is healthy, and the stat increases are
significant too. To be honest, that character hasn't yet run into a
situation where the Undead Crown's +5% life would have been
significant. And the variety of benefits from the Veil just seem more
important than something he can drink a potion to fix. And finally,
there's style to consider. IMHO, the Veil of Steel is one of the
coolest looking helms in the game (and yes, I've seen them all on
Elly's HF page). :)

The Helm of Sprits is almost as good an available in multiplayer
although rare.
