From www.linuxgames.com (I should check there more often :)

"Blizzard: No Diablo 2 Thu Mar 25 00:59:32 1999 CST
Joe Drew wrote in to let us know that he got a response from Blizzard
regarding a Linux port of the upcoming Diablo 2. Unfortunately the
response was simply "Sorry, we have no plans to produce any linux
products at this time." and then some more on their plans for 3D
support. As blatent as this was I still won't give up hope that Blizzard
may still allow someone like Loki Software to port it."

Well, if Blizzard is working on a Mac and PLaystation version (or has them in
the shute) than I don't know where they would find the time for a Linux version
(not knowing enough about Linux, I'm not sure how much additional supoprt
software the game would need.

Perhaps. Then again, for the present, it seems like Linux could be added to
so that it would support all these Windows 95/98 games without porting.
(might be a heck of a challenge though). If Linux could rise to that
occasion, than we'd see a lot more people jumping over to it, and the
consequent writing of games for the Linux platform.

Linux (or some public variant) is going to supplant Windows, its just a matter
of how soon.

There already is a project for a Win32 emulator on
linux....the real problem (for what I understand) about games is the
DirX thing....I don't think that can be easily emulated without
affecting linux's stability...but I may be wrong :)

It's already there (actually two...) and it's called Wine, it's alpha
and even emulates directx, however since it's still very
under-construction new versions come out about every week... Starcraft
for instance works fine, except for the battle.net part, which seems to
give problems

Torture for the Billy Gates gruff, but a cornucopia of pleasure for those
seeking perfection.

Thanks for all the info on Linux. He he, sounds like it might be ready for D2
when it comes out :-)

Yup, it is! lol! damn thing is harder than hell to get
running, at least in my junkyard puter (made from spare parts I had
around the house...p150, 32RAM, 1 meg vid card and a 650 meg HD)...I
do need to make a real puter now that I demonstrated to myself that I
can get linux running....once I get my dual p2 333 I'll turn this p2
into a linux box :)

Mmm...I didn't know it emulated DirX...I guess is time for me
to try and see which games can I make work in there :)
