Something wierd happened with my multiplayer Rogue in Hellfire today.

I found a Gnarled Root a few days ago, had been hanging onto it trying
to figure out if i wanted it or not. Today I applied beta patch
version 2 and hacked hellfrui.dll. Then I loaded my Rogue for testing,
thought what the hell and applied blacksmith oils to the Gnarled Root.

Later I noticed it had an AC of 246, wow I am *definitely* gonna
figure out a way to use this.

Hit screen print.

Came onto this newsgroup, started to compose this msg and noticed PCX
file lacked stats overlay. So I went back into Hellfire (ie
restarted). Now where has that AC gone? It's now back to normal stats,
including -10 AC. Since 256-10=246 (the AC i saw, and tested) I guess
this is another Hellfire "feature"/bug.

So is the Gnarled Root (with it's normal stats) of any great use to
any character? Even if not, maybe I will oil it up again if I can pass
it to my Warrior & see what happens.

Thanks for all the help & info posted here by the regulars. Any chance
someone could compose a FAQ to deal with the questions that arrive 10
times a day, you know the ones I mean. Whilst folks are still
discovering all these new Hellfire things I could see a FAQ cutting
down on a lot of unnecessary repetitions.

Just a small note. The +% damage only applies to base damages, never
to base damage (in the case of general +% damage) and never to the
damage doen by suffixes so accually the most damaeging combination (if
you include the effects of speed would be a kings bastard sword of

I found one with my bard just this weekend. It was a great weapon for a
while - I used it in combination with a Gold Sword of Vampires. My bard was
doing 58-112 points of damage with it - not bad for a non-warrior without
maxed out strength. I eventually ditched it for a Sword of Haste - I'm doing
half the damage, but attacking faster is so much nicer against the succubi /
acolytes in Hell!
