Hey All

Long time lurker (for years), never posted much.

Got a bit of a problem with D2 on my new comp. Thought I'd try here in case
anyones suffered a similar situation, but somehow I think it may be a
bizarre one-off.

Installed D2 then LOD, patched up via auto-update. Copied in saved chars.
Game runs fine, has sound, music good, monster sounds ok. Go to npc in
town, no speech! Try all npc's, nothing. Played about in dungeon, can hear
some item drops but not all. No sound for jewellery or gems whether
dropping from monsters or manipulated in stash/inventory.

Checked sound config, set to show text & speech. Updated soundcard drivers.
Tried everything obvious. Other games ok. Audio cd's sound great.

Relevant sys spec - P4 2.8, Creative SB Audigy, 512 meg DDR, GeForce4 4800
(if that's relevant).

Any help gratefully received.

SoundBlaster in any form on a P4 is somewhat problematic. Sometimes it
works, sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes it "almost" works, like in your
case. I'd contact both Blizzard and your computer manufacturer. Hopefully
one or the other will help fix it. If not, you can yank the SB, and put in
the cheapest sound card you can find, and it'll likely work fine.

Ah, thanks Ruben. Wasn't aware of the conflict. Instead of complaining
about D2 maybe I should be grateful that everything else works ok :¬)

Try typing 'soundchaosdebug' inside of a game. It updates your sound
drivers to the latest version automatically....

Cool, maybe some hope for me Boblo. I decided against multi channel
speakers as most of the time I need headphones in. Got a pair of satellite
speakers with a woofer and amp box. Not sure if there's anything I can do
with the set-up of them ? Still, I'll have a dig about.
